Universal Beijing Resort App Shows Off New Rides and Attractions

We last caught up with the hotly-anticipated Universal Beijing Resort in October 2020, when they released a promotional video showing off some of the rides and attractions we can expect across the resort's seven themed lands. Now, with construction on core areas of the park completed and doors set to open in May 2021 (pandemic permitting, of course), the release of the resort's iPhone app (there doesn't seem to be an Android version yet) offers up more clues for theme park fans.

The app gives details about each of the themed lands. Some lands are currently more sparsely populated than others — WaterWorld, for example, only lists the WaterWorld Stunt Show, described as "a hurricane of fun and excitement" featuring "perilous plunges [and] jumping jet-skiers." Jurassic World Isla Nublar, on the other hand, lists three attractions: Jurassic World Adventure, an indoor ride; Raptor Encounter, a meet and greet featuring the raptors famously trained by Chris Pratt's character Owen in the Jurassic World films; and Jurassic Flyers, an outdoor ride that will give visitors "a Pteranodon's-eye view of the spectacular prehistoric world below." The concept art shows tracks wrapping around a forested mountain complete with beautiful waterfalls and as website Orlando Informer notes, given that Universal Beijing has previously emphasized that Isla Nublar will be one of their most in-depth creations to date, this is definitely one to look forward to.

Elsewhere, the app gives details of what is sure to be one of the resort's hottest rides: the Decepticoaster in the Transformers Metrobase land (pictured in lead blog image). The ride takes the form of an Autobot Coaster, diving into the Decepticon Driller to observe how it processes Energon (the preferred fuel of the Transformers race, apparently). Expect plenty of thrills as "one wrong move and The Driller could be revving up its razor sharp teeth."

We also get details of some of the food and drink options that will be on offer, including Minion's themed The Lair - Villain Restaurant and Bake My Day (named after the bakery in Despicable Me 2), rustic Hogsmeade tavern the Three Broomsticks, and the all-American Mel's Drive-in.

We expect that you'll be able to buy tickets through the app in due course as you can for other theme parks in China such as Shanghai Disney. In the app's description on the App Store, Universal says that it will be frequently updated with more rides, shows, and restaurants as the resort's opening date approaches, so check back frequently.
