Beijing's International Website Wants Your Logo Design

The Beijing government’s international website is seeking out designs for its brand new logo and name, and it wants you to contribute your idea!

The site, english.beijing.gov.cn (which can also be found in eight other languages) already looks a good deal prettier than most other official Chinese government webpages, but they reckon it can look even better with a new crowdsourced logo and moniker.

You don’t have to be a Chinese citizen to submit your work – in fact, you don’t even have to be in China at all, as submissions are open to, well, the whole world, including individuals and organizations alike. You do, however, have to submit a unique, full-color design that fits in with the current design of the page and expressed the idea of a modern Beijing, along with your suggested new name of the site, which should be five words or less.

Beyond a bit of online exposure and bragging rights for the winner, there doesn’t appear to be any incentive by way of prizes. In any case, the designs will go through an online voting process before finalists are forwarded to a panel of experts who will choose the winning design to go on the site, along with eight additional designs to be recognized for excellence. The selection process will go through Nov 7.

Contributions are open until Oct 18, so if nothing else it could be a way for aspiring (or professional) designers to kill some time over the National Week holiday. Once you’ve whipped up your offering, you can send it to beijingimage@126.com along with a description (in English or Chinese) of the intended meaning behind the logo, plus your suggestion for the website’s new name.
