Beat the Heat With These Pools, Water Parks & Pool Parties in Beijing

The summer heat has arrived in the capital, and with temperatures regularly hitting above 30 degrees C most days, a lot of us will be looking for ways to beat the heat. One simple and fun way is to grab your swimwear and a towel and head to one of Beijing’s pools, pool parties or water parks to splash around and cool off.

Pools

Qingnianhu Park Swimming Pool

Located just north of Andingmen, Qingnianhu Park Swimming Pool is my personal favorite pool in Beijing, and each summer I can’t believe that more people don’t know about it. Unlike many of the pools on this list, Qingnianhu Pool has a relatively central location, situated just north-west of Andingmen Station. The pool itself is relatively large in size and equipped with a few slides, so once schools finish for summer, it can get pretty busy, but not overwhelmingly so. You can either get tickets when you arrive at the pool or get them in advance through their official WeChat account "北京市东城区青年湖公园管理处", then in Messages, click on "水上世界" and then click "预约购票".

Beijing Guoce International Convention and Exhibition Center

This great pool is located up in Shunyi, inside the International Convention and Exhibition Center hotel. Less busy than your usual public pools, it has tons of space to swim and also has sunbeds, food and drinks. The sunbeds do go quickly, though, so if you want to nab one, you’ll need to get there early! The pool also now has a dedicated bar called Young, and they had their official opening party back on Jun 6.

You can purchase tickets for the pool by following their official WeChat “北京国测国际会议会展中心”; then, in Messages, click  “微信商城” (WeChat shop), and then click either option, and you'll be taken to a page with different ticket types. You can choose from basic entrance tickets as well as tickets that include amenities like a buffet dinner.

IBIZA the Oasis

We mentioned a little while back that this brand new pool would be opening up soon, and now it's officially open! It's already been making waves (see what we did there?) in Beijing's pool party scene. This pool brings the vibes of its namesake Ibiza with a sandy beach area, stunning large outdoor pool, beach bar and DJ booth. They've got a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available, along with bar snacks and shisha. One thing to note about this pool is that it's only about waist height and more geared towards a party pool than a place for a proper swim. They will be hosting regular pool parties over summer and you can keep up to date with them by following their official WeChat account “IBIZA the Oasis” and then clicking on “PARTY” to see upcoming events.

Renjian Huahai

This destination takes a bit of an effort to get to, seeing as it’s all the way up in Miyun District, but wow, is it worth it! Featuring a giant artificial beach against a mountainous backdrop, it’s a perfect day trip to escape the city and get back to a bit of (partially man-made) nature. This pool normally opens on Jun 15 each year.

Tiantian Yugang Leisure Farm

This pool is located on Tiantian Yugang Leisure Farm in Daxing and is comprised of three outdoor pools: one large adult pool and two smaller paddling pools. They also have an indoor pool as well as around seven hot spring pools if that’s your thing. For food, they have a barbecue buffet available if you want to get some grub while you’re there. The outdoor pools are already open, and if you book a ticket through Dianping, it's only RMB 33.9 (normally RMB 69.9).

Zhongguancun Pool

Zhongguancun Pool is located next to the Institute of Theoretical Physics up in Haidian. They have two pretty standard 25m pools, one of which is an extra deep pool, making it a great place for people who want to do some more serious outdoor swimming or get some lengths in. It also gets plenty of sunshine during summer, so it's an ideal spot to do a bit of sunbathing. The pool normally opens on Jul 1 each year.

CLUB ME

Another party pool, CLUB ME is located on the sixth-floor terrace of the Yintai Center. Right in the heart of the CBD, the pool has plenty of different seating options (consumption charges apply), an outdoor bar and lots of beach-themed decor to make you feel like you're somewhere more exotic than the center of Beijing. Again, the pool itself isn't particularly deep, so if you're after more swimming action, another pool would be better. They also host regular pool party events, including one this Saturday, which you can read more about below.

Water Parks

Beijing Aqua Magic

Located in Fengtai District, this massive water park stretches out over 300,000sqm and features 18 different rides and about 50 flumes. The water park recently announced a special anniversary sale where tickets are only RMB 69.9 until Jun 24 (which is a steal considering tickets normally run for RMB 299). The park boasts a huge wave pool that covers around 10,000sqm and sees waves of up to a meter high, as well as a large artificial beach around 8,000sqm. With so much going on, it’s certainly worth a day trip, and there is more than enough to keep everyone of all ages entertained. Hot Spring Leisure City

Located in Changping district, Hot Spring Leisure City combines hot springs with all kinds of water fun – think slides, wave machines, and more. The good news about this water park is that it’s already open! However, it's only semi-outdoors, with the main pool area being inside a greenhouse-style structure with a rooftop that opens up so it partially feels like you’re outside. There is also a kiddie pool area that is completely outdoors if you want to enjoy some proper sunshine. The water park will open on Jun 15 and you can buy tickets through their official WeChat account by scanning the QR code below and then clicking “线上购票” and then “点击购票.”
