Sarah Brindell is a songwriter, arranger, producer, musician, and Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music.

With touring credits around the world, she has shared the stage and recorded with many renowned artists including Norah Jones, Carole King, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, and Raul Midon.

Her original songs can be heard on many television shows including MTV’s Made.

She was a finalist in the Song of the Year contest as part of VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation, as well as the Billboard World Song Contest.

A Summa Cum Laude graduate from Boston University, she holds a Masters degree in Music Education, and teaches courses on campus and online in songwriting, harmony, ear training, arranging and stage performance.

She conducts clinics nationwide and internationally, and continually helps thousands of students to reach their full potential as professional musicians and songwriters.

This Thursday we invite metal band NEKROMA to present their SHINING LANDSCAPES in an evening of limitless stage experimentation. Soaring melodies, meditative chants, and a shadow play performed onto a scene that is painted simultaneously on the back wall. Combining improvised sound and live-drawing they seek to redefine the limits of artistic performance.

It is time to chill down after a long week with some Sunday Jazz at Modernista. Tonight saxophonist Kevin Sun and his Jazz Trio will be playing for us. Accompanying him on stage is bass player Walter Ashford Stinson and drummer Matt Honor. Have a drink and relax to the sound of their gentle jazz sound!

More About: Kevin Sun

Kevin Sun (孙凯) is a saxophonist, improvisor, composer, and writer living in New York City. His trio, established in 2016 and comprising bassist Walter Stinson and drummer Matt Honor, is documented on one album and performs regularly around the city. Sun also leads a quintet and is involved in a number of co-led ensembles, including Earprint and Mute. His creative work to date has attracted attention from leading critical publications, including The New York Times, the Village Voice, DownBeat, The New York City Jazz Record, Audiophile Audition, PopMatters, and Stereogum, among others. He has performed in the bands of Dana Saul, Juanma Trujillo, and Xiongguan Zhang, among others, and performs frequently as a sideperson on the New York jazz and improvised music scenes. He has also performed extensively in Beijing and was named Artistic Director of the Blue Note Beijing Jazz Orchestra as of August 2018. Sun inaugurated his blog, A Horizontal Search, in 2012 and has written online for Music & Literature and Jazz Speaks, the official blog of The Jazz Gallery in New York City. Bob Dupont is a vegan banker who doesn't eat gluten, who plays guitar, parties hard, takes the money, and doesn't see any contradictions in his life, a modern life man.

Amadeus in Concert

Experience the power of Mozart like never before with the Beijing International Chamber Orchestra! Under the baton of Russian conductor Maria Nauen, they will play a selection of Mozart's most glorious works, including the Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, the Magic Flute, the gorgeous Symphony no 40 and virtuosic piano concert no 23, with Russian soloist Svetlana Kudryavtseva. And to add to this artistic feast will be the winner of an octet of Academy Awards "Amadeus", the legendary film by Milos Forman projected on the screen behind.

“Amadeus” tells the story of Viennese court composer Antonio Salieri and the envy that consumes him upon discovering that the divine musical gifts he has longed for all his life have been bestowed on a bawdy, impish and mischievous young composer, Mozart. With the sole aim of pleasing God, Salieri devoted his life to music, an art which he considered to be divine and holy. Yet for all his talents, Salieri was a mere amateur when compared to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salieri’s jealousy fuels his desire to destroy the man, but his evil plot remains in vain.

Breath-taking views of Salzburg and Wien, where Mozart was born, lived and died, combined with the memorising work of his hands, head and heart, will take you on an unforgettable journey back to the 18th century.

Concert duration is 2 hours with 20 min intermission.

For summer 2019, UCCA invites emerging experimental jazz musicians to present original work in a variety of spaces in UCCA’s newly renovated building. On May 11, UCCA welcomes the Kevin Sun Trio for a free public afternoon performance in UCCA’s Lobby.

With Kevin Sun on tenor saxophone and clarinet, Walter Stinson on bass, and Matt Honor on drums, the trio began playing together in 2016 in Brooklyn. Their self-titled first release, released in February 2018 on Endectomorph Music, documents their musical explorations into novel improvisational architectures, which feature interlocking rhythmic frameworks, drum chants, negative harmony, and extended transformations of transcriptions from the jazz canon. The trio has performed at major jazz venues in New York City such as The Jazz Gallery and The National Jazz Museum in Harlem, and will perform at UCCA as part their weeklong tour in Beijing in May 2019.
