WORLD MUSIC

World music (also called global music or international music) is a musical category encompassing many different styles of music from around the globe, which includes many genres including some forms of Western music represented by folk music, Jazz, as well as selected forms of ethnic music, indigenous music, neotraditional music, and music where more than one cultural tradition, such as ethnic music and Western popular music, intermingle.

世界音乐 (也称为全球音乐或国际音乐) 是一个音乐类别, 涵盖了来自世界各地的许多不同风格和类型的音乐, 包括以民间音乐、爵士乐以及个别民族音乐、土著音乐、新传统音乐、 以及类似民族音乐和西方流行音乐交织在一起的多种传统文化音乐的组合。

LIRON MAN

Liron Man is an Israeli world music musician and composer. He is widely considered one of the most influential figures in the world of handpan, and often known for his musical skills and speed; in China, he has been affectionately called “guishou” (ghost hands). Liron incorporates elements of various forms of world music into his pieces, including African, Eastern European, Latin, Asian, Middle Eastern, flamenco, and also jazz, pop, rock, heavy metal, classical music and more.

Born on December 19th, 1985, to a supportive and loving Israeli family, Liron’s musical journey started at age 6, and began performing in concerts since age 10. He began composing his own pieces in the year 2000, and has been receiving media attention globally since 2010. His 2013 album with 19 other musicians from around the world continues to sell thousands of copies, as he is working on his solo album and a project with a whole new set of ethnic musicians.

As a self taught handpan musician and musical genius, Liron’s work is a reflection of our global world and the richness of cultures and heritages, a passion for authentic expressions, an inspired journey to learn about one another, and is filled with wondrous musical delight, touching the hearts of all his audience.

李荣满

李荣满是一位以色列著名的世界音乐家与作曲家。他被公认为是手碟界最有影响力的艺人之一、因为他的演奏技巧和速度而知名。在中国则被昵称为‘鬼手’。李荣满的作品中融入了多元素的世界音乐在内，如非洲、东欧、拉丁、亚洲、中东，还有爵士、流行、摇滚、重金属、古典音乐、等等。

1985年12月19日，李荣满出生于一个充满爱心的以色列家庭。他的音乐生涯6岁的时候就开始了，而10岁就举行了第一次的独奏音乐会的演出。2000年他开始了自己的音乐创作，2010年就已经开始被世界媒体关注和报道。他2013年与19位不同背景的世界音乐家合作的专辑任然得到大量的关注、在全世界销售；同时他也在准备自己独奏专辑的录制和发行、以及一个新的与不同民族背景音乐家们的合作项目。

作为一位手碟自学的音乐天才，李荣满的音乐反映了我们现代社会文明的国际化、传统与文化的丰富多彩、对真实表达的传递与热情、一个带有灵感的民族之间互相了解的旅程、和充满了奇妙感的音乐创作，深深的打动了他所有观众的心灵。

Of Brooklyn-based saxophonist Noah Preminger, The New York Times declares: “Mr. Preminger designs a different kind of sound for each note, an individual destiny and story.” Preminger, just 32 and the winner of Downbeat Magazine’s Rising Star Best Tenor Saxophonist, has recorded over fourteen critically acclaimed albums. Multiple new recordings were released in 2017-18, including Meditations On Freedom, released on Inauguration Day, 2017, as a musical protest at ominous political developments in America.

An internationally recognized saxophonist-composer-bandleader, Eli Degibri possesses many gifts as a musician. He boasts a seemingly bottomless fount of artistry as a composer and a bandleader, and is a recipient of the honorary Israeli “Prime Minister Award for Jazz Composition”, recognizing his great talent as a melodic composer, and the “Landau Award for Jazz Performance”, recognizing his achievement as a remarkable band leader.

Timber Timbre is a Canadian psychedelic folk group, featuring Taylor Kirk, Simon Trottier, Mathieu Charbonneau and Olivier Fairfield originating from Toronto and Montréal. After releasing two indie albums, their eponymous album became a critical success after being long-listed for a Polaris prize. Since then, their music has made it onto Breaking Bad, and they’ve supported Laura Marling and Feist on tour.

The Royal Concept (formed in 2010) is a Swedish indie and alternative pop band that incorporates new wave synths and electronic dance music elements into their summer soundtrack-spawning material, hailing from Stockholm, Sweden. See them at Tango 3F in Beijing on Wednesday, May 15th.

Blending reverb-soaked shoegaze with minimalist electronic production, The KVB's music reflected Nicholas Wood and Kat Day's mastery of atmosphere even as their sound evolved over the course of the 2010s. Early releases such as 2012's debut album, Always Then, dealt in brittle beats and sonic blasts that evoked Cabaret Voltaire and the Jesus and Mary Chain in equal measure, but the duo's style became more streamlined and sharp-edged on later efforts such as 2018's Only Now Forever.

Carl Barat, the co-frontman of the now-disbanded English group The Libertines, appears at Tango 3F on Wednesday, May 8. Since The Libertines, Barat has fronted Dirty Pretty Things, and the Jackals and released a solo album, plus headlined a couple of sold-out Asian tours.

Japanese rockers Suchmos come to Tango 3F on Sunday, June 16th, as part of their 2019 China tour. The group draws inspiration from rock, jazz and hip-hop, taking their band name form one of Louis Armstrong’s nicknames, and they’ve been praised for their sophisticated musicality.
