New Noise are thrilled to present two special shows for iconic Japanese band ENVY.The band will play Shanghai MAO Livehouse on Jan 18 and Beijing OMNI Space on Jan 20. Their music, through their own evolution, encompasses a sound where intensity and beauty coexists. Standing on the foreground of the Japanese underground scene, these legends have recorded over a dozen of albums and with each album since their inceptionin the early '90s the group have chipped away at the linguistic and cultural barriers inherent in international rock music. Envy toured all throughout the world with Mogwai, ISIS, Deafheaven, and many more. Envy toured their songs relentlessly for over two decades, and will continue to do so well into the future. New Noise is proud to announce a 9 city China tour for MONO. The legendary instrumental band will tour China in March 2019 presenting their brand new album “Nowhere Now Here”. Through echoes of beautiful, gentle soft strings and the sudden surge or sound explosions, MONO delivers a new album with supreme dynamics, produced by their long time friend Steve Albini. The 4 - piece instrumental band, formed in Tokyo in 1999, have released 10 studio albums and are being regarded as one of the biggest instrumental bands in the world. The conflict and correlation between dark and light is a universal theme with a historically rich history. Musically, perhaps no band in the 21st Century has mined that relationship more consistently or effectively than Japan’s MONO. Praised by NME as playing “Music for the Gods”, their live performances are epic and of another world. This China tour will coincide with MONO’s 20th anniversary and it will be a rare chance to see the band playing a few special oldies that they have never played live before. MONO will play their longest set they’ve ever played and will take you on a musical journey through pipal trees and immortal winds.

Tonight local promoters "One Year" have organized one heck of a birthday bash for their one year anniversary. Over the past year "One Year" have burst onto the School Bar scene in booking multiple shows each month, and they have outdone themselves once again for tonight's big celebration.

Set to grace School Bar with their presence for the first time in what seems like at least a couple years are indie superstars Residence A, up-and-coming artsy punk dudes Wasted Laika, surf rockers Boss Cuts, Britpop outfit with an electro twist Diagon Alley, and bluesy blasting indie rockers that will make you dance Ghetto Blaster!

Tonight is Volume 2 of School Bar's "The World Belongs to Us" series! The goal of this series is to take a handful of bands who usually play weekday shows and give them the bright weekend spotlight to showcase their musical creations. We've picked these bands as they are brimming with potential and no doubt will continue to grow into eventual headliners someday.

Set to take the stage tonight are disco punk dance outfit Show Hand, young indie rock outfit made up of a couple Los Angeles not yet 20 year olds and a Beijing guy WAR/N/T, punk inspired indie rockers Summer Warz, psychedelic electro rockers Whisk Image, and rounding out the line-up "I Know You're That Type of Girl" (就知道你是这样的女孩), who describe themselves as "shame punk."

Every Tuesday and Sunday night at the Bricks we dive into the unique atmosphere of a 1930s bar, vintage swing beats and dancing. Twice a week we invite everyone to experience what young people back in swing era did on their free night - swing dance!

Every Sunday we have a selection of upbeat swing tunes (Big Band, Gypsy Jazz, etc.) for those who love vintage jazz, whether just to lay back and listen or to let those happy feet loose on the dance floor.

Swing Dance is a partnered social dance originated in Harlem, New York (USA) and was especially popular throughout the 1920s-1950s. It's a partnered social dance based on leading and following, and danced to jazz music from the same era (mainly Big Band swing). It's a very fun and diverse dance, including many elements combined in a free improvisational manner.

Today many swing dancers all around the world enjoy dancing various styles, including Charleston, Lindy Hop, Shag, Balboa and a few others. On Tuesdays the BRICKS hosts Lindy Hop classes and party, and now on Sundays we introduce another swing style called BALBOA. Balboa is a type of Swing dance, originated in Southern California during the 1920s and 1930s and gained in popularity in the 1930s and 1940s. It is danced primarily in close embrace to upbeat swing music. This dance is fully improvisational and can be quite energetic yet elegant.

Super School Fighter is the brainchild of GeiGei, aka Gu Jingping, aka Quick Shot signer, and aka long-time staple of the Beijing music scene. For the past 4+ years she has been booking gigs at School via her Super School Fighter project, and over the last couple years has settled into booking almost every Thursday evening show at School. Starting last summer SSF expanded beyond Beijing, and now books weekly/monthly shows in Shanghai, Chengdu, Xiamen, Wuhan, and elsewhere around China as well. With an eye out for new talent and wanting to discover bands just getting started, don't miss these shows at School Bar.

Flamenco sin fronteras

Gipsy guitar duo "Paseo" is formed of Ivan Dorzhiev and George Margiev.

The main idea of the Duo is to get acquainted an audience with a gipsy music in its huge diversity such as Spanish (well-known as Flamenco), Russian and Eastern European.

The duo takes the audience on a journey through orange groves and olive orchards; arid, sun-drenched mountain plateaus; caves filled with gypsy passion; tiled courtyards with elegant, whispering fountains; and a history flowing with ecstasy and anguish. The natural sounds of guitars evoke times past when people sang their lives because they dared not speak of them openly.

Together Ivan and George explore the range of emotion that gipsy flamenco provides inits music, from lyrical ballads to playful rumbas to the deepest of laments.This is truly music of the soul, but with a serious groove. And the audience isa part of the performance in flamenco. As the performers reach for duende, a state of truth and inspiration, the audience is invited to reach with them,shouting out their approval and encouragement: "¡Olé!".
