Guitar, double bass, drum and saxophone might be the common instrument in jazz music, but Greg Lamy Quartet adds more charm in these instruments and they make some different music. Greg Lamy Quartet is from Grand Duchy for Luxembourg which is a small country with an area of 2,586 square kilometers that has a population of about 570 thousand. Although it is one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe, Luxembourg has seen the birth of over 500 bands and artists in the past ten years. In order to encourage people to play music and promote the music, Luxembourg sets up the Luxembourgish music export office music: LX to help more outstanding musicians to be on the international stages.

The music of Greg Lamy Quartet is not just jazz: sometimes walking around the cross of jazz and blues, sometimes playing folk ballad, sometimes you think you play a swing song to dance. That is the band brings multiple melodical climates. Their music has limitless possibilities and you never know what will be the next note to surprise you. Anyway, Greg Lamy Quartet’s music could satisfy each demanding ear.

The members of Greg Lamy Quartet have played together for 11 years and they have the unspoken tacit. They enjoy to play music under this tacit and to reach new heights, which creates a unique atmosphere of Greg Lamy Quartet. Each member has his own feature in playing instrument. As the front-man of the band, guitarist Greg Lamy owns a refreshing and pure sound gives birth to multiple melodical climates; double bassist Gautier Laurent has a requisite sensitivity of music, which helps him to grab the exact note he needs; Johannes Müller has an elaborate and sophisticated skill in playing saxophone and he is good at expressing emotions through his music vocabulary; Jean-Marc Robin controls a fabulous technique of playing jazz drum and he also makes the sound of Greg Lamy Quartet much more three-dimensional.

Characterized by an alchemical osmosis, the Greg Lamy Quartet is an accomplished ensemble. Their tours in Europe, USA and Brazil caused a tremendous repercussion. At the same time, the album Meeting released in 2013 received critical and public acclaim as one of the label’s best-selling albums. In 2016, the Luxembourgish music export office music: LX awarded them the Export Artist of the Year Award in the jazz category.

On July 15 DDC presents a matinee performance by Nekroma and Wen Liang titled ‘Visions from the Void’. Following on from the ‘Visions in the Night’ performance Nasty Wizard Recordings put on at Yi Chang Cafe last year, this performance will attempt to explore the concept of art created in a feedback loop with live music, with both the performers and audience taking part in the creative process. While the performers will create ambient soundscapes combined with live digital paintings and shifting found visuals the audience will also be provided with art materials with which to express their interpretations of the creations unfolding before their eyes. Strange and ethereal voices beckon from the void, let’s hear what they have to say.

Nekroma

Nekroma is an experimental art rock quartet based in Beijing. While the group began as a collaboration between the bands Nakoma and the GUIGUISUISUI, Nekroma has taken on its style and identity distinct from the two bands that forged it. Drawing on a range of influences from all over the globe Nekroma utilizes vocals, skateboard guitar, drums, bass, electronic samples, and synths to create a backdrop for carnival of intriguing characters including King Necro, Pumpkin Queen, Diavolo Rosso, and The Hanged Man. On record they present twisted fairy tales and Lovecraftian fantasies, while live they mix theatricality akin to a silent horror film with digital painting created in real time and projected over the band, creating a feedback loop between sight and sound. Nekroma beckons. In 2018 Nekroma played at Taihu Midi Festival.

Wen Liang

Born in Jilin, North-East of China, he is a young composer, music producer and music editor, engaged in film and television music production and editing. His personal style is built upon the concept of free exploration. His works got approval by Zhang Yadong, Chen Weilun and other well-known music producers. In 2012, he arranged the winning track "Olive Tree" for the winner of Rock The Web, the female singer Xuan Ling Mu. He has long-standing collaborations with the well known S.A.G Sound Art Group, Chen Weilun, Cui Jian and Na Ying.

Jiafeng aka Gao Jiafeng is a peculiar complex: electronics producer, saxophonist, musical instrument designer, rapper and talk show actor. The music style includes vapor waves, disco, futurebass, citypop, hiphop, traps, and ghosts, etc., and then uses his homemade cool-waste aesthetic VJ and TED lecture styles to run through the audience. From the Brainwashing MV "Kidhi disease" to writing a nightmare song with 9m88, buying lyrics from Taobao, winning the Abbey musician award using pseudo-hacking techniques... you will get a world of open minded ways to open. Every performance of Jiafeng is full of joy, but at the same time it is worth thinking and playing.

Shitty Sister
Shitty Sister is Beijing's premier alt-rock ukulele-fronted family band. Coming into fruition in 2018, it consists of Tyron and Rudi of Tydi Knots and Kaitlin of Bill. "Mom said it wasn't fair to exclude her" said Tyron on the band's formation, rolling his eyes. Shitty Sister combines the raw honesty of Liz Phair and the gritty heaviness of Courtney Love with the pure, untapped sexuality of the girls from Hanson. Put on your unused prom dress (#noise before bois) and watch these ladies rock the stage.

Dirty Fingers, a foursome punk band from Shanghai, will be playing at Yugong Yishan this Friday, June 29, along with The Molds and The Bedstars, two Beijing-based punk bands who are surely going to add more fuel and excitement to the gig since they haven't played for nearly two years.

About Dirty Fingers (from LiveBeijingMusic):

Frantic, relentless, and brimming with vitality, over the past five years Shanghai punk ruffians Dirty Fingers have grown from a college band to one of the most prominent punk bands in China. Playing over 300 gigs, through 35 cities in 26 provinces around the country they’re an assault on the senses and have managed to keep things fast and loose with their DIY attitude and live wire act - a wallop of animated mischievous and riotous recklessness - exactly the kind of scrappy mentality that the punk scene needs now at this moment in time.

Their sophomore release from How’d I Turn So Bad, released on Maybe Mars, in 2017 was a runaway hit - an unholy mess of ramshackle charisma, tightly wound melodies, and a carefree yet volatile attitude that landed on many year end lists. Since then the band has embarked on an ambitious takeover of the world, with plans to take their razor-edged recklessness across the world with eyes on Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America. Their mission: to build what they called “The Dirty Fingers Army”. They may be insane - but one listen and you’ll want to follow them down the rabbit hole too.

A band that dangerously teeters to the edge each and every time out – Dirty Fingers are lighting in a bottle threatening to do some serious damage.
