A "Schubertiade" - The Summer Concert of The German Kantorei Peking

Who doesn’t recognize Schubert’s capricious “Trout" or know of his “unfinished Symphony?” These two greatest hits of classical music serve to exemplify Schubert's popularity and at the same time reveal the great craftsmanship found in his work. In addition to an immense number of such upbeat songs and rhythmically, as well as melodically gorgeous instrumental compositions, we also are indebted to Shubert for many choral compositions and vocal quartets. In fact, his output was so diverse that already during his lifetime he organized concerts known as "Schubertiades" in the bourgeois salons of his time, in order to make his comprehensive opus known.

From such concerts The German Kantorei Peking takes its inspiration for this year's summer program and together with its soloists and the children's choir it will perform some cheerful, high spirited choral and quartet compositions by Schubert. Juxtaposed with these are works by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) and two contemporary composers, Ola Gjieilo (* 1978) and Eriks Esenvalds (* 1977). More intimate musical moments will also not be missing, such as those found, for example, in Schubert's choral composition "Prayer" (D 815). We can guarantee an exciting and enjoyable evening with the chance to perhaps discover some new favourites.

The first Syndicate party of 2018 brings California-based bass slinger Tsuruda to Dada Beijing. With his roots planted firmly in the Low End Theory sound, Tsuruda's wonky UK bass and halftime-influenced music has sprouted off in all kinds of weird and wonderful directions, reaching sonic tentacles into such illustrious labels as Noisia's Division, Ivy Lab's 20/20 and Alix Perez's 1985 Music.

60 Miles

The Swiss trio 60 Miles did not take its name from a decade surely very rich in jazz, neither from a certain trumpeter with an emblematic silhouette (among others). But…

But it’s certainly jazz that 60 Miles propose. In our day, does a jazz still exist that refers only to itself and is nourished only by its own tradition ?

60 Miles choose to create its own music, inspired as much by Parker, Jarrett or Cohen as Led Zeppelin, Radiohead or Beethoven. A music formed in the great tradition of the trio, but without the usual codes. A music where the rhythmic games take the principal place, between the fascination of the numeric abstraction and the enjoyable celebration of the ambiguity.

After publishing their first album « ...Ou à raison », (Altri Suoni / 2015) 60 Mileshave played in Switzerland, France, Germany, China (Beijing / Dalian / Xiamen / Changsha / Shenzhen / Guangzhou) and south America (Brazil / Argentina). At the moment the trio is presenting the new record:« Last Summer » 2018

But why 60 Miles ? A question of space, but finally also a question of time…

As was said by another celebrity (but without trumpet) « the world is fix, in balance in a space of dimension four ». And Switzerland is not so big.

Thefour interprets of Hansons are particularly involved in research and understandingof the musical language. Thanks to its knowledge of the music repertoirefounding the string quartet, and especially Joseph Haydn, the Hanson Quartet builds up to itself a strong identity of discourse in which intelligence and a touch of humor get involved in the delicacy and the sensibility of its interpretation.

The quartet has performed in large halls as for exemple the Wigmore Hall, the Victoria Hall, the «Auditorium de la Maison de la Radio» in Paris, the « Opéra de Lyon », the« Salle Cortot » or the « Cité de la Musique ». The Hanson Quartet is regularly invited to play through over Europe (Germany, Norway, England, Austria, Italy, Swizerland, Portugal, Morocco…) and since september 2016 the Hanson Quartet is in residency at the French Radio (France Musique).
