Su Zixu & The Paramecia is an international music project founded in Nanjing in 2013 by singer-songwriter and poet Su Zixu. Rooted in a distinctively cacophonous creativity, the band features eight members from 5 countries, and integrates orchestral brass and strings with rock instrumentation to blend folk, jazz, world music and progressive rock. In their devotion to grandiosity and subtlety in equal parts, Su Zixu & The Paramecia expurgate musical landscapes, journeys of immense furore, as well as profound quietude. These earthen yet ethereal soundscapes evoke both whispers and shrieks of poetic verse that echo overtop fundamental harmonies of humanity and nature: at once primal and subtle, elementary yet evolved. As this sonorous cacophony purges itself, the ubiquitous calm and furore of a storm somehow finds its singular voice, a butterfly's wings gently flap moments before the plummet into life’s deafening abyss.

Their debut album “Out of the Labyrinth” (2017) was produced by British producer Zachary Dorne. Signalling the first shot fired in a tumultuous onslaught of recording and an ambitious China-wide tour followed its release, marking the band’s own ascent beyond the battlegrounds of the Gulou music scene where they first cut their teeth. June will see the release of their much anticipated follow-up instrumental album “Out of the Dust” (2018), produced again by long-time collaborator Zachary Dorne. Inspired by world music traditions, this sub-project of the Paramecia namely, Eong invokes the purity of elemental nature: water droplets in all of their stillness that may yet accumulate to stream over the cliff’s edge. On June 2, after an acoustic opening of the show together with songs from their world music project, the Paramecia will perform “Out of the Labyrinth” in its entirety at DDC with Zachary Dorne on drums – their final salute to the chaos.

Afternoon alley in June, the heat freezes the scenery, but it can't stop the beat. The three musicians with different characteristics will talk about the past and the existing story, sit down and take a beer.

Xu Chen

Indifferent style independent musicians. Grabbing the folk and rock spirits of the 1960s and 1970s, incorporating traditional folk rock elements into Chinese songs, and at the same time boldly innovating in lyrics, detached from the monotony of the mainstream folks. There are up to 700 words of narrative songs and lyrical songs with a simple structure. I believe that musical instruments and lyrics are mere media, and that any sound in nature can create wonderful music.

He studied guitar in Xinjiang during his youth and came to Shanghai to form a band in 2012. He rode to Beijing in 2014. In January 2018, he released his debut album "Inside the Border." All songs on the album were composed and sang by Xu Chen. The entire album was featured in a personal style, including social concerns and personal reflections. It is a Chinese folk rock music. Added new strength.

Fei Xinwen Phake Knews

Non-hearing is a personal plan initiated by independent musician/producer Liu Yusi in 2018. In this new plan, music elements such as crazy, blues, folk music, and city pop will be mixed together to form a form that may be called “urban pop and pop.” Of course, this form is still in the experimental stage, the trial cannot be successful, but also have to look at the mood.

Li Yang

Among the new generation of independent musicians in Beijing, Lear Young is a very subversive one. Constant exploration of different musical styles, the construction and dismantling of sounds, and the continuous breakthrough of the guitar playing language cannot satisfy him. The sharpening of the underground music scene has led him to continue his reflections, ranging from arrogant avant-garde, thundering sound experiments, to calm, new attempts to integrate world music with Chinese traditional music elements. He is only 21 years old and he has unlimited possibility.

After performing a series of live impromptu sound works, based on a series of poetry and accumulated video material, he began to experiment with the combination of experimental music and video works. At the end of 2017 at the Caochangdi Art District, Lilley Yang organized his first personal video exhibition.

The Solid Gold Dream Machine is back on the track! First gig @ The BRICKS

Tavey Lean and The Solid Gold Dream Machine (more conveniently known as Solid Gold) have been together in various shapes, sizes, forms and formations for the last decade, bringing their own nu-wave-nostalgic feel to the covers they perform.

As trendsetters of the “Postmodern Jukebox” scene of Beijing, Solid Gold maintain a focus on modernising tunes from the past; a cocktail of known crowd pleasers mixed with those-songs-you-swear-you've-heard-somewhere-before leaves audiences both invigorated, and refreshed. Taking influence from the wide array of musical preferences, combined creative talents, and collective years of experience shared amongst the eight piece band, the specific end goal in mind is always...Fun.

Whilst the internal mechanisms of The Solid Gold Dream Machine may change from time to time, the cogs keep turning, bringing the party as often as possible. Jump aboard Solid Gold's very own Soul Train where you are invited to sing it with Stevie, move it with Marvin and (depending on how much liquid fun you consume), enjoy a showcase of once forgotten classics you'll not forget any time soon
