"Keep Calm and Fly On" is School Bar's longest running regular concert series and tends to usual book bands from the post-punk, post-rock, and math rock genres. Of course there is nothing wrong with a little rock n' roll and having a few too many drinks, but for this gig series, it is more about mellowing out, finding your zen place, and getting lost in the music.

Set to take the stage tonight are one of School Bar's favorite bands of last year and winner of Best New Band at the School Bar awards, art punks Wasted Laika. Joining them are the post-punk experimental improv band Swarm, the always entertaining Run Run Run, jazz fusion post-rock band Acid Accident, and rounding out the line-up, post-emo rockers ala Chinese Football, Wonder Sea.

Join us.

FEW’LL IGNITE SOUND INC. (Canada & US) – GLOBAL CAFÉ (Derek Andrews) – management@fewllignitesound.com

Ember Swift is a Canadian musician and songwriter who has released 12 albums and 1 DVD project since 1996 through her own independent label “Few’ll Ignite Sound.” Her most recent album "Sticks & Stones" (2017) is a collection of work in three categories: Songs for Adults; Songs for Kids; and finally Songs for Adults w/ Kids, a community she feels deserves some separate recognition! This new body of work culminated over the past five years since becoming a mother of two in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

This is Ember's third release since moving to Beijing in 2008 and it demonstrates how music can serve as a bridge between the two divergent cultures: East and West. Fluent in Mandarin and French, Ember sings in all three languages (including English). With the inclusion of the Chinese traditional instrument (erhu) alongside of Western contemporary instruments, the performance and sound are both entertaining and unique. Couple this with Ember's signature elastic-jazz vocals, eclectic music styles, and poignant, astute lyrics, and this "folk" artist becomes hard to categorize but impossible to forget. Styles on this album include jazz, folk, gypsy, rock, R&B, electronic, pop, folk and even Klezmer.

Zulu Panda is folksy charm and raw passion, delivered with an outstanding live presence. Hailing from Vancouver BC, this indie-rock singer-songwriter is performing and recording in every province and territory to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Canada in 2017. His music combines heartland rock with grunge while maintaining a pop sensibility. His dynamic sound is matched nicely with warm melodies and Dylanesque storytelling. He is a troubadour of sound, stage and beard.

In addition to Zulu Panda's One-Fifty Recording Project, he is preparing to release a new full-band studio EP album in the new year. This will mark his second venture into professional recording after the success of his debut studio EP “Two-Way Street (Not War)” in 2016. Zulu Panda began his pursuits as an independent singer-songwriter in 2013 after the release of his self-produced full-length album, “Hope All Abandoned.” That year, he was named semi-finalist in the international “Song of the Year” songwriting contest and graduated with top marks from Langara College's Singer-Songwriter Certificate Program.

Since then, he has toured most of Canada, the western United States and parts of China, in addition to developing a local Vancouver cult fan base. He continues to work with industry professionals (including songwriter Deborah Holland of Animal Logic and producer Adam Fulton) to further develop his sound. His plans for the future include co-writing a musical adaptation of a 1980's action movie as well as touring more of North America and Europe.

Currently, Little is studying Chinese at Tsinghua University and has several revamped folk versions of classic Chinese songs he occasionally performs. He plans to soon move from songwriting and performing into recording.Yan Bozhou is a fingerstyle guitarist who uses rock and other influences to create a whole new sound.
