Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra

Named after the main character in a Lu Xun novel, the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra has stubbornly found its own niche in the Beijing jazz scene for more than a decade, bringing together an eclectic mix of musicians, styles, and original jazz compositions.

Playful, creative, adventurous, the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra uses the rich language of jazz to explore the rhythms, melodies, harmonies and emotions of our world.

In September 2021, the band released their latest album, featuring new original compositions, entitled Lifeline.

In 2020, Ah-Q recorded Letters From Afar, an exchange of musical “letters” that captured, in a somewhat different time and space, the playful back-and-forth of jazz improvisation.

Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra’s second album “Dream Messenger” was released in 2018, capturing improvisational snapshots of the original compositions that have evolved out of the group’s many years of performing together in Beijing.

Always looking for new collaborations with members of the Beijing jazz community, the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra holds special performances each October as part of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, celebrating the power of the universal language of music in affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship and our shared humanity.

Beatles Remastered is in its first year of performing however Beijing has a long history of beatles cover bands going back decades. The person often found at the centre has been our very own Ringo, Gregory; In some circles he's called G'ringo.

For Filip, Gordon and Sam the project has been the awakening of the deep relationship most musicians have with the Beatles.

Their catalogue of 213 songs provides a variety of styles, genres, moods and mystical muses that never fails to delight and entertain people all over the world. It is an honour to bring a shadow of their glory to you tonight.

Rena Lei is a senior singer active in Beijing Jazz stage and a member of Jazz Association of China Music Association.

She grew up in a musical family when she was young. She showed her strong memory and imitation ability of music melody, and began to learn singing skills with vocal music teachers. The University studied in the TV Department of Communication University of China, majoring in radio and television editing and directing. She signed a contract with Beijing Star disc Culture Development Co., Ltd. to become its own artist. She released individual singles and participated in commercial performances. During this period, she first came into contact with jazz music in Beijing CD jazz bar, so she was deeply fascinated. Since then, she began to learn jazz songs and embarked on the road of becoming a jazz singer. She has performed in Aria bar of China Hotel, Park Hyatt Hotel, Beijing Liang bar, big easy happy station bar and other occasions. 

Five creative minds come together to form, Project : 100000. Each member brings their individual sound  however all are focussed on creating an organic atmosphere which combines improvisation and exploration to original compositions written by Anthony Tropea.
