Super School Fighter is stoked to be booking shows once again and return to their normal Thursday night time slot at School Bar. SSF is the brainchild of GeiGei, aka Gu Jingping, aka Quick Shot signer, and aka long-time staple of the Beijing music scene. For the past 7+ years she has been booking gigs at School via her Super School Fighter project, and over the last couple years has settled into booking almost every Thursday evening show at School. Starting a couple summers ago SSF expanded beyond Beijing, and now books weekly/monthly shows in Shanghai, Chengdu, Xiamen, Wuhan, and elsewhere around China as well. With an eye out for new talent and wanting to discover bands just getting started, don't miss these Thursday shows at School Bar.

BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyl) is the perfect event for vinyl enthusiasts to show off their record collections and play songs from their favorite 45s and LPs using our in-house turntables. If you have records and no turntable, this is also an opportunity for you to show off your wares. If you have no records, you’re welcome to just simply sit back and groove to the improvised playlists. For those who are not familiar with the equipment, our veteran DJs will assist you with the turntables and mixer.

We aim to bring together a community of music lovers to have fun and communicate. No matter if you are a music nerd who wants to exchange knowledge and experience of your collection, or an up-and-coming vinyl DJ looking to improve your skills, or just someone who likes to share and enjoy, this is a pressure-free space for you to express yourself and to meet like-minded folks.

How it works:

· Each set is first come first serve

· Any genre is welcome

· 10 - 30min sets

· Please respect the tables, mixer and needles; equipment is not cheap.

· Havefun, kick back and enjoy!

Frau (Matt Hildebrandt) is a vinyl DJ and selector who is known for his varied sets, mixing together different genres with very little reliance on effects and trick. His selections span disco, house, techno, Italo, breaks and acid.

Originally from Melbourne, he’s been in Shanghai for over 6 years holding down residencies and doing events all around town.

As versatile a selector as they come, Frau casts a wide musical net over his DJ ethos, encompassing smoky dub, starry-eyed breakbeat throw downs, charging industrial machine music and the soaring voices of the Disco greats. 

Frau is the curator of NTS Radio London’s LIve from Shanghai series, which is a monthly radio broadcast featuring China’s best DJs, producers and crews. Frau also has a monthly set on NTS under the name China Social Club.
