Cindy’s UMAMI by Han wishes you a sparkling new year!

And therefore, would like to invite you to a ‘New Year’s Toast’ on the 6th of January. Bring your friends and family and let’s celebrate a fresh new year together with some good champagne and delicious bites from UMAMI’s chef!

New year traditions that we are familiar with are, of course, the kiss/toast at midnight, fireworks, drinking champagne and having a good time with your beloved ones. However, new year’s is celebrated in different ways around the world and comes with many unique traditions…

In Ecuador, December 31st is time to ceremonially burn a hand-made doll named Años Viejos, or Years Old. The dolls are made of old clothes and sticks or sawdust for stuffing, and often made to look like someone who has made a negative impact during the year, such as a politician.

During new year’s In Germany and Scandinavia, TV stations broadcast Dinner For One, a British comedy sketch about a woman celebrating her 90th birthday. The sketch has nothing to do with the New Year holiday, but has become such a tradition that it landed in The Guinness Book of World Records as the most repeated TV show ever!

In the Netherlands, New Year’s Eve is a relaxed family holiday until midnight, then it's party time in the streets with fireworks and revelry! The Dutch serve doughnuts or fritters called Olie Bollen, traditionally served during coffee time in the morning or as snacks on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

One of the customs associated with the Scottish new year is that of the ‘first-footer’, or the first person to visit your home after midnight on New Year’s Day. It is good luck if your first-footer is a tall handsome man with dark hair, preferably bringing a small gift. Some girls get very upset if the first person who calls them in the new year is a woman.

Will celebrating New Year’s at Cindy’s UMAMI by Han become a new tradition? Hope to see you at 20.00 on the 6th of January!

Franz is the head of Slow Motion, an Italian dance label based in Berlin. Aside from producing on his own imprint, he has releases on World Unknown, Tusk Wax and Bordello a Parigi and with his side project Studio Luce on Cocktail d´Amore Music. Franz also promotes many events around the german capital such as the monthly Wrong Era parties, New Dance Fantasy or Magic Waves Festival.
