Lianhuatan Village, under the jurisdiction of Jingzhuang Town in Yanqing District, was an important transportation hub in ancient times. It is called "Lianhua", because there are three small mountains to the south of the village, and it looks like lotus flowers from far away. During the Qing Dynasty, the village was renamed to its current name. The village is situated in a small basin on the terrace of the valley, with undulating terrain at an elevation of about 687 meters. There are currently 78 households with a total population of 191 people, all of whom are Han nationality. The main surnames are Shen, Wang, and Fang.

【The route type】Comfortable dirt road

【The route description】Starting from Lianhuatan, passing through a pine forest, then climbing 200 meters and reach the mountain ridge to walk about 1 kilometer before descending. The rest of path is mostly shaded by trees, it is easy to walk. Along the winding stream, you can listen to the gurgling water and pass through a small forest and it is a very pleasant atmosphere. (Reference level 1)

l Lowest point: 519m

Notice:

1. Take at least 3 bottles of water.

(Remember to drink and eat constantly on the trail, if you have to drink because you are thirsty you are not drinking often enough, if you need to eat because you feel weak you haven't been eating enough.)

Last time we hiked the east section and went down from the Zhenbeilou. Now this time, we will pay a bit effort and finish the entire east trail. We will strar it from Jiankou village and end the trip at the foot of Mutianyu. You have to be in good physical condition and not afraid of height. Let's enjoy the fantastic scenery which is covered by green vegetation.

【The route type】Mountain route + Wall restored+unrestored road

【The route description】At the beginning, we start climbing slowly mountain dirt trail till the wall. No dangerous section. It's nice mountain trail. Then we are on the wall. From here, we will pass 3 challenging poins, except that all route are friendly. The first one, it is a deep slope to climb up (20-30 meters). Also it is possible to cross it from the side. (It looks dangerous but it is safty.) The second point, when you go down and cross one side to another side, the passing distance is narrow but it is one-two steps that you will reach the ground. The last one, you need your hands to climb up a short distance. (In the past, there was a ladder to make it more easier. Now the ladder is gone.) Although it is much more safety than before after reparing it, but these 3 points, you still need to be careful and do it slowly. Then we are walking along the wall to reach "zhengbeilou" where the photos were taken. We enjoy the fantastic view there. Then we will go down from mountain path.

Chenjiapu Great Wall is located on the border of Yanqing and Huailai of Hebei province. Go ahead of west of Badaling. The best part of the Great Wall had been built in the Ming Dynasty, and the great of the Ming Great Wall is almost entirely concentrated in the Beijing.

All sections of the Ming Great Wall are characterized by their geographical location and natural conditions. Chen Jiabao is built on the top of the mountains, the wall is tall, (on average 7.8 meters, the highest 14 meters), the wall is wide, (average 6 meters), few fortresses. So it looks majestic. For this season, the lilacs of the mountain are going to bloom.

【The route description】At the begining, we climb up slowly towards to the Greatwall. The route is noraml wild mountain path and not steep. Then we reach to the wall in the entire journey. It goes ups and downs. Sometimes, going down is a bit steep with dirt and gravel. It is not easy to go down from the wall at the last section, but we walk slowly and all will be good.

We know there are some very famous GreatWall for camping. But we choose Wanquanyu GreatWall for considering it is an unique route and not officially open to the public which means probably we are the only group camping there. Also the route is friendly and the view is awesome as well.

Wangquanyu Great Wall is located in Huairou. It had been rebuilt based on Qin Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty. It took more than 170 years. If you’re a Great Wall geek and you have been to Jiankou, Dazhenyu, these parts are all in a series. At the end of wall, it is a cliff. You can see there is a 100 meter's wall ending. As local people said that when this section of the Great Wall was reinforced during the Ming Dynasty, due to an error in the terrain survey, the construction was stopped. Because it went very far and it was in the wrong direction. Therefore, some people also call it the Wrong Great Wall. Some people also say that this section of the Great Wall was originally planned to be built up to the Mountain where the "Jiankou" is located, but after it was built here, it was found that the mountain was too high and dangerous to build any higher, so the construction route had to be changed.

12.30: Arrival at the village and have a group lunch.

【The route description】All the time we are walking on the wall; and all is unrestored the trail, dirt with rubble. But there is no dangerous section.

Oberviously we had a strong wind last weekend. Although it is still the GreatWall season, we don't know how many flowers haven't been blown off by the strong wind. Hope the new round flower season is coming there.

Changyucheng GW is located at the the cross connection of northwest of Changping and Huailai County in Hebei province, which is with 1400 meters the highest Great Wall tower in Beijing. “Changyucheng” literally means “Long Valley City”. Changyu Village was used as castle for military usage in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) so it still keeps the ancient castle walls and city gate. We do the small loop for this hike. At the end, we will cross the Hebei boundary line.

【The route description】At the beginning, we are climbing up slowly towards to a small reservoir. After that, we climb up to the mountain. Then we pass through a forest. Suddently, the open area is front you. Then we will reach the first GreatWall tower and walk alone with the wall a bit. Then we go back the first tower, and go down from the other side. We pass the boundary of Hebei province. The trail is wooden walk way. Generally speaking, it is a friendly route.

Longquanyu Great Wall is located in Yanqing District, about 20 kilometers north of the Ming Tombs. It was built in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and it is one of the most ruined stretch of the Wall around Beijing. The Longquanyu Great Wall is the beginning of a long, uninterrupted stretch of Great Wall that passes through Huanghuacheng, Jiankou, and Mutianyu. Longquanyu Great Wall is an ideal place for adventurous and experienced hikers and photographers. Most parts of the Great Wall at Longquanyu have been repaired now.

【The route type】Dirt route and GreatWall trail (restored path)

【The route description】It is a loop line from a village to the GreatWall. This wall is easy to walk up and down. Most of the route is flat. But some place of the steps are high, and there is one section a little bit steep when we are down from the Great Wall, it is not long distance. Now the flowes are blooming and covered the whole mountian. When you stand on the wall, you could feel amazning nature with vicissitues of history.
