During the 19th century, it was estimated that around half of all Chinese women had bound feet.

Footbinding started in the Song Dynasty and was outlawed after the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1912.

Despite this, it was still practice not only in remote areas but also in big cities like Beijing.

These days foot binding no longer exists but you can still find some older ladies who suffered tremendously when they were trying to achieve the perfect little foot.

The exhibition shares some of the stories of the very last ladies left with bound feet.
