In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the “Modern Art Week of 1922”, a movement that kick-started the modernism in Brazilian arts, the Brazilian Embassy in Beijing brings to China, for the first time, reproductions of works by Tarsila do Amaral, one of the greatest Brazilian painters of the 20th century.

From 03/08/22 to 08/31/2022, the facade and exterior walls of the Brazilian Embassy at Av. Guanghua Lu will be covered by banners up to 9.0 meters high with 11 works by the painter, including the “ Abaporu”, a symbol of the search for a Brazilian national identity in the field of arts, which has never been seen before in China.

“Tarsila do Amaral is considered by many as “the painter of Brazil”. Exhibiting reproductions of some of his main works for the first time in China is a way of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 1922 Modern Art Week and also the 200th anniversary of Brazil’s independence,” said Ambassador Paulo Estivallet de Mesquita.
