In keeping with my expanding "what I ate for for lunch today" series, Shawarma Dareen is Tuesday's pick. I've eaten here a few times already, in-house and delivery, and they've yet to do me wrong; big, juicy chunks of chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla packed with lettuce, corn, tomato and onion. Upgrade to the chicken and cheese option or go veggie with crunchy falafel and smooth humus, all for RMB 25-30. The sides aren't particularly inspiring but at least they don't skimp on the french fries.

The two things that lose them a star are the less than inspiring location – a slightly-too-tall standalone table where you stare directly at the counter that you just ordered from – and the spicy option is not as spicy as it could be IMO, cos lord knows I eat spicy. Saying that, Dareen's open dining style means that you can meander over to one of the draft beer places nearby (Drunk Begining over Panda Brew) for a pint. There's also Cheers next door, making for a true test of a first date if you're masochistically inclined.

Shawarma Dareen is always busy and already has a dedicated fanbase so let's hope it does stick around because Beijing hasn't seen shawarma this good and cheap in a while.

The wrap I bought with chicken and meat in it at Jianwai soho cost me 10 RMB...

How was it and what's the name of the restaurant?
