Green Cow City Cafe

Green Cow City Cafe is a haven from the hustle and bustle of Beijing, selling an expansive range of Western dishes cooked using organic and locally produced ingredients. It's also one of the best places in the city to brunch, though if you're worse for wear, we recommended getting a friend to order for you as the paper menu can prove quite the puzzle for the uninitiated.

Ponte

Ponte (bridge in Italian) is the fine-dining sister restaurant from the team behind pizza and pasta favorite Annie's, decked out in a decor akin to vintage and golden-era Italian glamor. After the meal's done, stock up on all of your treasured Italian delicatessen wares at the Ponte deli.

Meat Mate

The aptly named Meat Mate provides chilled Australia-imported beef steaks, including most main cuts such as rib-eye, sirloin, oyster blade, tenderloin, shank, silverside, rump, and skirt. You simply pick your meat and pay depending weight. You can either take your meat away or have the store grill it for you for free.

There are also cheeses, sauces, seasonings, and Australian and Spanish wines to choose from.

Hffousa Taco

Hffousa Taco serves a range of salads, burritos, nachos, tacos, and paninis as well as various burrito bowls.

Curious about the name? Turns out it's an acronym for "healthy, fashionable, and low-calorie food," which might be pushing the boundaries of what an acronym actually is.

Fruityshop

Once tucked away near Dongsi Subway, Fruityshop has moved out east, securing a larger venue near to Chaoyang Joy City. However, the core experience remains the same: beers, a wooden interior, friendly staff, and of course, lots of vinyl make this place an inviting hangout irrespective of whether you're looking for a hidden gem or just want to kick back.

Diaoye Niunan

Owned by a Beijing food connoisseur, with the kitchen managed by a prized Hong Kong chef, it's no wonder there is a daily queue outside their three locations in Beijing (with more in the works). A variety of noodle dishes, thick hearty stews, and unique desserts will be served to you by their curiosity-inducing semi-veiled waitstaff.
