As a solo artist, Kamau mixes jazz chords, soul rhythm, slide guitar, blues riffs and percussive styles with lyrics that have been called pop but personal and full of soul. You may have heard him rip the blues with Great Buffalo Blues or shred chords with his rock band D. Cortisol, but his solo work is a lush and carefully woven narrative of music, lyrics and stories that together are quite an experience, a musical road trip not to be missed.

Ska (/skɑː/; Jamaican: [skjæ]) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae .Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. It is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the off-beat. Ska developed in Jamaica in the 1960s when Prince Buster, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, and Duke Reid formed sound systems to play American rhythm and blues and then began recording their own songs. In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica and was popular with British mods. Later it became popular with many skinheads.

The bands:

EARLY BUS was formed in 2007 in Beijing by four young punks. As time went on the band has developed deep insights of Jamaican music, the boys now have more focus on making more authentic and original Jamaican tunes and spirits out from the messages in their music, genres fused with Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae. Their approach to music is tuning up for the beauty of the world we are living, singing freedom and passion through the legendary upbeats, “just like how much the sun, air and water are essential for living things, peace, love and understanding are so vital to our life” the band says the pump of heart in their music.

The Flip Side are Beijing’s only live disco band. Bring your boogie shoes and come prepared to freak out, shake your booty, get jiggy with it and celebrate good times.

Disco is a music genre and subculture that emerged in the mid 1960s and early 1970s from America's urban nightlife scene. It reached peak popularity between the mid-1970s and early 1980s. Disco started as a mélange of music from venues popular with African Americans, Hispanic and Latino Americans, Italian Americans, LGBT people (especially African-American and white gay men), and psychedelic hippies in Philadelphia and New York City during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Disco can be seen as a reaction to both the dominance of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music by the counterculture during this period. Several dance styles were also developed during this time, including the Bump and the Hustle.
