Led by guitarist and vocalist Todd Clouser, A Love Electric carries the sonic legacies of psychedelic rock, New York City's downtown scene, and introspective song into new territories with their rock, jazz, and experimental vibes. Qin jiannan, a rising and top ranking guitarist in China, Started learning and playing violin at the age of 5. In 2009, he graduated from Conservatory of Shenyang, got bachelor's degree in violin & orchestra, Right after graduation, he studied jazz guitar and been engaged in jazz guitar performance and teaching, Now serves as chief guitar teacher in jazz music department of Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. He was chosen to be the brand ambassador of US famous guitar string ERNIE BALL in China, and the special demonstrator of Chinese famous guitar brand Wavegarden. He played for the live band of the Broadway show <Monkey King>

Liron Man

is a composer, handpan and flamenco guitar player with an affinity to world music. He studied flamenco guitar with masters such as Antonio Rey, Juan Diego Mateos among others, and is a self taught young handpan master. Liron was born in Israel, has lived in Spain, Canada, and now China; he has performed in nearly 30 countries and collaborated with artists such as Sandy Lam (林憶蓮), Jorge Pardo and more. Diversity in cultures and traditions continues to inspire him and his unique melodic style of music. Liron has been recognized for his skills in performing at high speed and gained his nickname "Ghost Hands".

Also known as "string Tube" "South Tube", circulated in the Minnan area, using Quanzhou dialect (today Licheng District) singing. The Lyrics and songs retained more ancient Quanzhou dialect, is a strong local characteristics of traditional music. It own the laudatory name "living fossil" in Chinese traditional music culture, was selected as the representative of the World class intangible cultural heritage in 2009. Its music mainly by "zhi" "pu" "Qu" three major categories of composition, simple and elegant melody, with exquisite charm and unique Rhythm Characteristics; musical instruments are divided into "SHANG SHOU JIA SI" and "XIA SHOU JIA SI" two major systems, "SHANG SHOU JIA SI" for the PAIBAN, the Nan-Yin PIPA, SANXIAN, DONGXIAO, ERXUAN, "XIA JIA SHOU SI" for SIBAO, SHUANGNINGl, XIAOJIAO, XIANGZHAN, NANAI(SUONA); The musical nature of the ensemble determines the NANYIN's music and Player as "HE" as the center, and in the form of the museum-court activities. It preserved some of the traditional Chinese music, singing in the form of adhering to the Han Dynasty "XIANGHEGE--The music and the song of the festival'; The NANYIN PIPA retains the playing posture of"HENG BAO PIPA "in the Tang Dynasty, and the structural features of the PIPA, the pear-shaped body and SIXIANGJIUPIN are very similar to the in Tang Dynasty; the content of The Lyrics and songs are mostly originated from Yuan Ming Dynasty. Quanzhou Elegance and Music Society

Quanzhou Elegance and Music Society was formally established in 2005, using "LEHE, RENHE" as aim, committed to the study of Quanzhou Nan-yin, the transmission and improvement of musical instruments, "to carry forward the essence of traditional music, Inherit and perpetuate the craft of the XUANGUAN From ancestors". In last 13 years, the community has been involved in recording many NANYIN Sound Records, and organizing public performances. The musicians who participated in the performance were not only proficient in singing skills, but also made achievements in NAN YIN musical instruments, history and theory.

Professional Experience

Born in Mariara in the Venezuelan state of Carabobo, I have been a musician since I was a little. My area of expertise is the percussion and I am also a professional DJ.

At the age of 14, I started taking classes with the professor Orlando Poleo working to improve my instruments’ technique.

I have been part of renowned national and regional orchestras, such as “Ildemaro y su Orquesta”, “Erick Franchesky y su Orquesta”, “Dimensión de Siempre”, “Grupo Mezcla”, “Grupo Kaffe”, “Grupo Mangüe”, “Grupo Alteración”, “Grupo Fascinación” amongst many others. I have also shared the stage with world class musicians such as Óscar de León, Michael Font and Sergio Gallardo.

In the year 2003 I moved to China where I have been working both as a percussionist and a DJ in the club “Latinos”, “Buffalo”, “Salsa Caribe” and “Eudora Station”. I have been part of the bands “Makore”, “Grupo Swing” and “SaVor Latino”.

Currently I am an exclusive musician for Tonydrums LP, forming part of the Latin Music Conference in Xiangxi, Hunan Province.

Recently I participated in My Band SaVor Latino Con V De Venezuela in the BEIJING CHAOYANG INTERNATIONAL SPRING CARNIVAL 2016…..

Gilberto

In October 2003, he had the opportunity to come to china to sing with the latin band "MAKORE" in a latin bar called "LATINOS". Until 2005 when another Latin club "SALSA CARIBE" decided to bring him on board as the lead singer. Since then until now he started as a singer and playing small percussion in the band, making crowds old and young dance and have fun, not just Chinese people, but all differents nationalities in and out of China. As a soloist, he participated in different events around China, the new year 2016 event in the Forbidden City, also at the great wall for the next Winter Olympic Games 2022.

Spittoon is Beijing’s main stage for poetry and fiction writers, with reading nights taking place across the city and a bi-annual literary magazine that sells in outlets all over town. Spittoon has always been a platform for creativity and innovation, and we are very excited to introduce the next showcase of our exciting music and writing collaboration project - Set to take place at DDC, June 27th 2018.

Spit-Tunes sets up a band or musical artist with a poet for collaboration on a special musical piece inspired by the poet’s poetry. We have an amazing line up, with KO, DFA1989, Hugh Reed, Li Er Yang, and Ember Swift taking part – A vast array of musical styles that would suffice to be a brilliant gig alone except that now the bands will play a special collaboration song in their sets, complete with a small reading from each collaborating poet.

This is a project that brings Beijing's music and literary scenes together in a hugely compelling way and we're very lucky to have the best talents to bring it to life. Come to DDC on the 27th June to see the what our musicians and writers have cooked up.

Simon Shieh

Simon Shieh is a poet and the Director of InkBeat Arts, an organization that empowers young people through artistic expression. He is the Editor in Chief of the Spittoon Literary Magazine and serves as the Writer in Residence at the International School of Beijing. Simon’s work appears or is forthcoming in Grist, Public Poetry, Anomaly, SOFTBLOW, Kartika Review, and CALAMITY, among others.

Xiao Shui

肖水，1980年生于湖南郴州，先后就读于复旦大学法学院、中文系。曾任复旦诗社第二十七任社长，创办复旦诗歌节、复旦诗歌图书馆、复旦大学诗歌资料收藏中心。出版有诗集《失物认领》（2012）、《中文课》（台湾，2012）、《艾草：新绝句诗集》（2014）、《渤海故事集：小说诗诗集》（2016）、《渤海故事集》（中英文双语版，Noelle Noell 译，香港，2017）。合译布劳提根诗集《避孕药与春山矿难》、小说《在美国钓鳟鱼》（广西师范大学出版社，2018），主编《复旦诗选》（2013、2015、2016）。曾获未名诗歌奖、《上海文学》诗歌新人奖、诗探索奖•新锐奖、三月三诗会奖、第二届华语青年作家奖提名奖、第二届建安文学奖、第七届复旦诗歌特别贡献奖等。

Anthony Tao

Anthony Tao is a writer, editor, and cat owner in Beijing. His poetry has appeared in publications such as Prairie Schooner, Borderlands, Kartika Review, Cottonwood, Asian Cha, etc. (and Spittoon!). He is currently the Asia managing editor of the China news website SupChina.com, and captain of Beijing Ultimate Frisbee teams. Previously you might have seen him around The Bookworm coordinating the 9th and 10th editions of the Bookworm Literary Festival.

Macondo

Macondo make some of the most interesting and exciting music coming out of Beijing today: instrumental rock with elements of math-core, infused with vibes drawn from 70s psychedelic music, adding the production and sound of today's electronic music. Their unique music shifts from sounds that are ambient and heavy, spacious and dense to atmospheric but rhythmically driven. Bombastic drumming, layered with lush floating guitar textures and earth-shaking energetic bass attack, and otherworldly synthesiser sounds.

Formed in 2014, the band quickly made a splash on the Beijing music scene, their live shows left audiences open-mouthed, describing it as 'Volcano Rock'.

Djang San and Band

Re-inventor of Chinese classical instrument zhongruan, philosopher, poet, composer, guitar hero, DJ, one man orchestra, music pioneer and explorer of new sounds, Djang San has been doing music in China since the year 2000. An artist with many faces, Djang San has also won the battle of the bands in Mainland China and Hong Kong against 100 bands in the year 2011.

Djang San has so far released 28 albums, the music styles of the albums range from Jazz to electro, rock, classical music, experimental music and more. Creator of a theory of intelligence, the personality of Djang San takes many different shapes in his many different projects.

As a one man band, Djang San plays seven different instruments on stage including guitar, flutes, electronic devices and synthesizers.

Djang San + Band is an extension of Djang San, a trio based on an electric version of Chinese instrument zhongruan he has created himself in 2014. The band is now extending its playlist to all of Djang San’s 28 albums.

Liane Halton

Having completed a B. Mus. in Composition and Classical Guitar at Rhodes University in South Africa in 2012, Liane moves between contemporary world, classical and jazz styles. She is currently the bassist for the Surf band "Boss Cuts", and composes for the classical guitar.

Dawei and Social Poets

His music rhymes with violence, acme, affection, literature profoundness, and is full of dramatic tension. free-style rapping is one of his signature. Every time Da Wei's on stage, he surges a poetic tsunami, sweeping the crowd and no one is left to dry.

MARIYAH is an experienced Danish/ Lebanese singer and performer based in Denmark. During her musical career she has toured several countries such as France, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands and USA. In 2017 the singer toured in China twice, with the most recent tour consisting of 24 shows in 28 days covering 10.000 km by bus. The two tours combined included 3 MIDI Festivals, which makes MARIYAH the first foreign artist to ever play at 3 MIDI Festivals in one year.

In 2014 MARIYAH won a Danish Music Award for 'Best Live Act' with her previous band ‘Patchanka’ and is widely known for her magnetic live performances. In late 2017 MARIYAH signed a 3 year management contract as a solo artist with the management REN Productions, with the goal of making her an international profile where Asia and China in particular will be their main focus.

Great Buffalo Blues (Blues, Folk)

The duo began with two players who just wanted to write and play songs that told the true stories, and then they expanded into a three piece electric blues band. Dooder brought his cajon, his guitar and his soul man style.

Kamau brought his guitar and vocals. Together, the duo started crafting songs that weaved funk rhythms and blues to bring to stage songs like "If I Told You I loved You", "Dream Song", "7th Floor" and "While We Were Sleeping."

They bring the funk. They bring the fire. They bring the feeling that you're feeling in your bones as you're reading through their bio.
