The Ullins Centre presents String 139, a guitar concert by the New Zealand Guitar Quartet. The Quartet has a varied repetoire, including jazz, bluegrass, classical, celtic and Flamenco music, some of which will be showcased in a performance including classical selections from Bach, the Blues and Spanish guitar. The Quartet has toured widely in New Zealand and Australia and played with orchestras and at festivals.

As part of Azari & III, Fritz Helder shifted the landscape of house; pushing up against, and pushing past, genre boundaries, with love and irreverence. Tracks such as Hungry for the Power, Reckless (With Your Love) and Manic became chart topping hits in the UK and Germany, propelling the group into a new stratosphere amongst the electronic dance ethos. Azari & III’s success culminated with the group dominating the European festival circuit, co-headlining a US tour with Die Antwoord and a Juno Award nomination for Electronic Album of the Year.

After  announcing their hiatus in Jan 2014, Helder, long term choreographer of Nelly Furtado and previously signed to her label Nelstar he worked on his appropriately titled debut “A Force of Nature”. And as the name suggests, Helder is exactly that live: Ambitious and fierce. “This being my first solo endeavor, I feel like my naïveté and vulnerability are on full display with this first collection of songs. I'm giving up the ghosts of my past and carving out a place of my own. I purposefully ventured away from what I thought people would expect from me.”

It's become a yearly tradition, and what better way to send 2016 out with a bang (and simultaneously have no real recollection of the beginnings of 2017) than the School Bar X D.O.G. Annual New Year's Eve show!

This year D.O.G., School Bar, and 7 Livehouse in Zhengzhou have teamed up for a 2 city rock n' roll extravaganza. Should technology not fail us with the antics of the evening, expect a countdown to midnight on the big screen with both cities and stages linked up. Local label D.O.G. is sending Steely Heart, LaiSee, Three Kings (老K蛋), and Pacalolo as representatives from it's roster of bands to Zhengzhou for the evening. Fear not, however, as the party in Beijing shall be just as hot.

2016 saw much loved indie rockers The Twenties and old school ska punk legends Ouch join the D.O.G. roster. With the label from the beginning, jet rock trio The Diders and Britpop rockers Secret Club are also set to play. Joining the fun this evening are friends and China's answer to The Strokes, Byebye Noise! Finally, after not playing a show for 6 months upon lead signer and School Bar owner Liu Fei breaking his shoulder earlier this year, hardcore punk dudes Human Centipede make their long awaited return to the stage tonight!

The line-up is stacked from top to bottom, but, did you really need much convincing to come out and welcome in 2017 with a drunken rock n' roll good time? Didn't think so! See you New Year's Eve!
