WHAI gradually became a pioneer rock band after a long period of evolution and introspection. Alan Shanyinde (Scotland) is one of our favorite DJs ever. He used to host nights at Shelter and Dada Shanghai, playing mind melting all vinyl sets of left field techno, cosmic house, and abstract beats.  Wicked stuff!  After a 7 year retirement, he's back and rocking it.  

He began DJing in Scotland in the ‘90s, later holding residencies at clubs that would host acts such as Gilles Peterson, The Quantic Soul Orchestra and Seiji. Upon arriving in Shanghai he was helped into the DJ circuit by V-Nutz, who was about to open his new venue, The Shelter. It was at this legendary club that Shanyinde brought over figures such as Floating Points, Pépé Bradock, Chee Shimizu and Black Merlin. He also supported international acts including Recloose and Dâm-Funk and played regular guest spots at other underground spots such as C’s and Dada.

In recent years he’s taken a break from DJing but has kept his ear to the ground and is now back with a fresh haul of vinyl that ranges from new jazz & broken beat to off-kilter house and dusty techno.
