Every neighbourhood needs its cosy cafe for late night chatting and lazy Sunday reading. A big xiexie, then, to Beijing artist-curator Huang Rui for opening At Cafe, a quirky and stylish cafe/bar situated minutes from the Beijing Tokyo Art Projects in Dashanzi. At Cafe is whimsically designed, from its two ‘bombed-out’ holes in a brick wall to a beautiful bench on the ground floor made out of a split tree trunk. There’s also a bright and airy second floor, although one will have to brave a precarious staircase to get there. The menu has decent coffee, a tasty menu of sandwiches and bistro-type main courses, and a good wine list.
