Five months into the Trump presidency, uncertainty continues to shroud the future of U.S.-China relations and American foreign policy in the Asia Pacific. Trade and North Korea’s nuclear program were expected to dominate the first U.S.-China Diplomatic and Security Dialogue between top government leaders, and policy watchers on both sides of the Pacific are looking for areas of cooperation.

Mr. Russel is an American diplomat who previously served as special assistant to the president and national security staff senior director for Asian Affairs
