The Burning Deck is the solo project of Bangalore based bassist and electronic artist Sandeep Madhavan. With influences that span everything from 70s prog-rock and jazz fusion to the Bristol sound of the 90s, while assimilating elements of hip hop, dubstep and drum n bass, the sound is always going to be out-of-the-box. As The Burning Deck, Sandeep has released two albums, Kalinihta (2013) and Deluge (2014) which serve as two movements in the trilogy of the story of the boy on the burning deck, inspired by Casabianca by Felicia Dorothea Hemans. On both albums, Sandeep has collaborated with a whole host of Indian and International artists like Kartik Basker (The Bicycle Days/Klypp), Arfaaz Kaagalwala (Fuzzy Logic), Katie Mackay (Reason Breeds Monsters), Jeet Thayil (Still Dirty/Booker Prize Nominee for Narcopolis, 2013), Bharath Kumar (Lucky Ali), Arjun MPN (Brotha V), Yadhunandan Nagaraj (Vasundhara Das), Gijsbert Ackermans (Old Jungle Saying), Mayur Nanda (Six Flying Whales), Ginette Bernardini (Kitchenkin) The Burning Deck has also scored the music for a short film for Filmmakers without Borders in Cambodia called ‘The Foreigner Here’. ‘A Different Shade of Blue’ from Kalinihta was nominated for Best Dance Song at the VIMA 2014. And in March 2015, Tailspin from ‘Deluge’ got picked up as the background score for a Nestle A+ Milk commercial on national television.

The Burning Deck Live is an interactive and immersive experience with sessions musicians on violin, flute, saxophone, drums and vocals complemented by custom visuals and 3D mapping.
