An event we first dished up way back in 2012, Great Leap’s Chili Cook-Off is a bonafide Beijing institution, representing the very best combination of beer, food and good times, set in the historic surrounds of our Doujiao Hutong No. 6 original location.
One of the things we love about chili is its diversity. Like making beer, you can pack a huge amount of craft and personality into the dish, and every chef has a treasured recipe that they believe elevates theirs above the rest. Whether you agree or disagree is the whole point! We want you to come, drink beer, eat chili, cast your vote, and crown The People’s Choice Chili Champion 2020.
For chili cooks, it’s free to enter – you just need to bring 15 liters of delicious homemade chili. You also get free beer ALL DAY and the chance to win the People’s Choice Award and an RMB 888 Great Leap Brewing voucher, or the Judge’s Choice Award, chosen by a panel of hand-picked foodie folks, and an RMB 588 Great Leap Brewing voucher. Of course, if you just want to eat, drink and be merry, this is the event for you. The entrance fee of 150 RMB gets you unlimited chili from all the contestants, two free Great Leap beers, and voting rights to crown the overall champion. You need to bring: 15 liters of delicious homemade chili. Ingredients: Anything goes, but only one imported ingredient is allowed; everything else should be sourced from China. Please send us your recipe when applying. Team size: two people per team (please notify us in advance if more than two). Total no. of teams: 8 to 12 (TBD). Entrance fee: nada, the chili is your entrance fee. Benefits: 20L cooking pot, aprons, ladle, and free-flow Great Leap beer throughout the contest.
