BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyl) is the perfect event for vinyl enthusiasts to show off their record collections and play songs from their favorite 45s and LPs using our in-house turntables. If you have records and no turntable, this is also an opportunity for you to show off your wares. If you have no records, you’re welcome to just simply sit back and groove to the improvised playlists. For those who are not familiar with the equipment, our veteran DJs will assist you with the turntables and mixer.

There is something special about listening to records with turntables. In the age of uniform-sounding 128 kbps mp3s, the physicality of records allows for a unique listening experience. You are more likely to pay attention to the generation the label and the musicians involved in the production, and appreciate more closely the design, artwork and recording quality of the record. Turntables trigger memories of the Golden Age, and are often used as a tool for mixing and scratching, inviting you to experience a rawer form of music appreciation. You never know what you’re going to hear, but whatever you’re hearing, it is the sound of history.

We aim to bring together a community of music lovers to have fun and communicate. No matter if you are a music nerd who wants to exchange knowledge and experience of your collection, or an up-and-coming vinyl DJ looking to improve your skills, or just someone who likes to share and enjoy, this is a pressure-free space for you to express yourself and to meet like-minded folks. Our friend Ryan from Guru Hole will also be bringing a box of fair-priced records for sale. If something catches your eyes, pop it on and spin your fresh discovery.

How it works:

  • Each set is first come first serve

  • Any genre is welcome

  • 10 - 30min sets

  • Please respect the tables, mixer and needles; equipment is not cheap.

  • Have fun, kick back and enjoy!

We see music as a secretive expression, however, management reserves the right to discontinue any music that is extremely vulgar, not suitable for easy listening, or otherwise not deemed appropriate for our family-friendly environment. Please spin responsibly.

ADDJ
ADDJ was born and raised in NYC.  His first foray into DJing began at his college radio station, WXDU Durham 88.7/90.7 FM, where for four years he hosted the punk/indie rock show “The Big Takeover”.  Upon his return to Brooklyn he continued to hound and pester bar- and club-goers with his particularly noxious cocktail of punk, garage rock, funk, soul, Afrobeat, hip hop and reggae until they booted him out of the country.  His hobbies include digging for vinyl, film, literature, and monkeys.

Dizzy Di
Focusing on dub and trip-hop, producer and DJ Dizzy Di has multiple identities. He has a variety of musical styles, such as the groovy trip-hop, the misty abstract hip-hop and the rhythmic old funk soul. He likes to add some exotic colors with dub jungle, drum and bass, or breaks. He organized dub brand "Own Sound"in Northern Europe and was known as Level-DIZZY Selector. He had been active in European music festivals alongside reggae singers and rappers from various countries. He created music event/label Dizzy System in 2012.

Wild Wata
First started DJing at Columbia Missouri’s community radio station KOPN 89.5 FM, Wild Wata plays an eclectic collection of roots reggae, dub, old-school hip-hop, funk and soul. After moving back to Beijing in 2016, she gots involved in the local reggae and hip-hop scene with her humble 2-track controller. Currently pursuing her Ph.D. in ethnomusicology in North Texas, she finds herself in the midst of a vibrant renaissance of turntablism and vinyl culture in Dallas. She is now learning the art of turntablism, and eager to share her musical and technical findings.
