The ongoing trade battle between China and the U.S. did not start with Trump, and it will not end with him, argue Bob Davis and Lingling Wei of the Wall Street Journal. The conflict reached a turning point in January 2020 with the signing of the phase one trade deal, but not before heavily impacting the global economy through trade restrictions and tit-for-tat tariff wars.



 About the Author 



Bob Davis is a senior editor at the Wall Street Journal, he covers economic issues out of the Washington D.C. bureau, especially those that will play out in the presidential campaign. He also continues to write about China, where he was posted from 2011 to 2014.


Lingling Wei is an award-winning journalist who most recently worked in the Wall Street Journal’s Beijing bureau. She earned a master’s degree in journalism from NYU in 2000. In 2011, Wei returned to China as a China correspondent for the Journal. Her reporting has since focused on the intersection between Chinese politics and the economy.
