Rickshaw Boy (also translated as Camel Xiangze) tells the bitter story of a humble rickshaw driver working in 1930s Beijing, and is considered a classic of 20th Century Chinese literature. Lao She, one of the great modern Chinese writers, was himself a Beijing resident who lived through China’s turbulent 20th Century and ultimately committed suicide during the Cultural Revolution.
