WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AT THE EVENT?

A Yi + Wen Zhen: Readings and Discussion

A Yi's works include four short story collections, three novels, and two collections of essays. Wen Zhen has published fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, and has won the Laoshe Literary Award, the October Literature Award, the Shanghai Literature Award, the Shanhua Biennial Award, the Young Chinese Writers Award, and the Most Promising Young Writer in Chinese Literature Award.

Reading + Live Art

Huang Chenkuang is the founder of Beijing Lights, a project that aims to share voices from Beijing’s 21.7 million humans. At the magazine launch, she will read the 21st installment from the archive, "Why Me?," where a 26-year-old woman talks about childhood, parental relationships, sexuality, and more. Her reading will be accompanied by live digital animation by Jen Rao, a Chinese-Canadian illustrator, painter, animator, and one half of the Beijing-based indie cassette label nugget records.

Post-Punk + Performance Poetry

New Age of Decay (Not Another Poet + The Slow Blade) is a post-punk/performance poetry band born from a Spit-Tunes collaboration in 2020. Since their first meeting they've gone on to perform in many places around Beijing and even recorded their first album, which will be released on April 15 at a Modernista launch party.
