ABOUT THE EVENT: “Made in Ethiopia” is a documentary film by Max Duncan and Xinyan Yu focused on Chinese-built factories in Ethiopia and their impact on the lives of ordinary people. The documentary depicts a collision of lofty dreams and harsh realities among Ethiopian workers and Chinese managers alike. Co-director and cinematographer Max Duncan will discuss the film, his first feature-length documentary. It was awarded the Jury Special Mention at the Tribeca Festival 2024, has toured 50 international festivals, and has been screened by 15 international broadcasters. ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Max Duncan is an award-winning director, cinematographer and journalist who makes long- and short-form documentaries. He began his career in China as a video journalist for Reuters, spending a decade in the city. He has also lived in Madrid for seven years and London for two. Using his international experiences and languages (Chinese, Spanish), he’s been involved in factual projects around the world. His awards include a World Press Photo Award, an Emmy nomination, and support from Pulitzer.
