I have been to The Little Mermaid a couple of times now, each time for lunch.

The place is homely and unpretentiously decorated, going for the cosy feel rather than the modern minimalism.

The lunch card consists of Danish smorgasboard type dishes. The lunch platter with a bit of everything from herring to danish meatballs is large, the food is homemade and it is a bargain at 48 rmb.

The evening card is mostly about good steaks. Hearsay has it the steaks are among the best in town, and two people can easily dine here for less than 200 per person, including wine/beers.

The wines are few but adequate for the place, ranging from around 120 to 320 rmb per bottle.

Danish beer and spirits (Scnapps/Aquavit) abound. Qingdao on draft, and at the moment there are also dark Swedish xmas beer for sale as a special offer.

The host is a super friendly down-to-earth Danish fellow named Torben, who takes a personal interest in his guests, and is usually found in the establishment. He willingly pours from his bottle of homemade schnapps "on the house", and is a refreshing break from the "I'm here for the money" type of expat host. Good man, thats all there is to it.

Thusly, The Little Mermaid is in food, drink and atmosphere an authentic experience of home to the Scandinavians, and a friendly, cosy recommendation for anyone else at an affordable price. Give it a try Smile
