I was there on a Friday night. GREAT atmosphere. Full of Spanish-speaking customers and as soon as the band started playing everyone was up and dancing (if only I didn't have 2 left feet!). It was clear everyone was having a great time. Or were drunk. Or were both.
The food: well, there's definitely nothing Tex-Mex about it. Very authentic, I'm sure. Here's what I had:
Salpicon: kind of stewed(?) beef with a couple (only!) of tortilla chips. 68RMB. Is it supposed to be cold?
Fish tacos: first time I ever tried these. Basically fried fish (like fish 'n' chips) with soft tacos and a bit of sour cream and hot sauce. Very tasty. 68RMB.
Margherita pizza: floppy (soft-based) pizza... cheese and tomato, basically (the cheapest one). 45RMB. Tatsy, nice appetizer.
Guacamole: quite good, a little too much lemon for my taste. Oh well. 40RMB.
A couple of non-alc cocktails, 30RMB each.
Service: GREAT! Just freakin' GREAT. The laowai workers (Cuban?) were very friendly and attentive. Chinese staff were doing their best. Made us feel comfortable and looked-after.
Get THIS- when the band starts playing the whole kitchen staff come out doing a sort of conga dance with spoons. Funny!
Basically a great place to eat and or drink.
BUT.... I have to say this...
The portions are small, no kidding.
They're not just "small" small. It's like they were designed for a Munchkin Wizard of Oz theme park. The tacos look like they'd fit perfectly into the hand of a midget, or should I say "little person"?
Everything is miniature.
Really. The tacos were the size of my mobile phone (it's small). Cute, but not exactly stomach-filling.
Anyway, minor gripe. Think of it more as a fun drinking/dancing place with snacks, rather than a restaurant.
They have a 98RMB special, but that's lunchtime only. I've gotta check that out.....
