Review of La Taverne
2

This was one of my favorite brunch places in Beijing since pretty much the day they opened. now, it doesn't seem like they're even trying. The menu is the same as usual but the quality has dropped leaps compared to even just a year ago!

Instead of freshly backed bread rolls, they serve old baguette slices.
The big serving of orange juices has shrunken in half
The cheese selection cold cuts and salmon are but a mere shadow of their old self.

in their defense, service has always been shitty! this at least didn't get worse! it was made tolerable by the quality and the atmosphere, especially on a nice weather day. Now, it's not even worth bothering:

brunch 1: went there with a few friends for brunch and they just said there was no coffee.. how can you run out of coffee in Beijing and let 5 people walk out when you have a store next to you that sells coffee. oh well.

brunch 2: went back after the coffee incident.. ordered their brunch B options and specifically asked for them to separate the salmon from the cheese and other cold cuts. The guy said ok and asked about it a few times. still messed it up. Asking for eggs sunny side up, which has never been a problem.. again, waiter said OK. eggs come out scrambled. When asked, he says that's the only way they serve eggs... uhmm.. been there too many times for that excuse.

anyways, here's hoping they get their act together again because I used to really really like that place.
