With formidable reminders of its past illustrious VIPs (Bronze cast of George Bush Sr., photo gallery of Presidents and Princes of Monaco), Lao She can feel a bit daunting. Luckily, the friendly and hospitable staff help to dispell any feelings of "I'm-not-worthy-of-sitting-in-Kissy-Kissinger's-chair" bashfulness.

Heavy beats, creative comedy, and astounding acrobats abound here. I'm no expert on traditional Chinese culture and may have experienced some petty simulacra of lao Beijing dazzlers. Certainly, surrounded by other foreigners and trinkets galore can feel a bit, well, canned, but the teas, presentation, and snax are excellent. The servers seem happy or at least humorous.

The heat however, my god! I suppose the oft-encountered ethic of too-hot-in-winter and chilly-Arctic-in-summer applies here, so "layer accordingly" does too.

Like admin says, a great place to take FOBs and those especially interested in a sampler of various Chinese entertainments.
