Review of LMPlus
4

I'm almost loath to review this place, as it's small and there's already a loyal following. But in the interests of the greater good, and sharing the good oil around, LMPlus deserves a good review. Opposite Alexander Health Club on the ground floor of one of the Central Park Towers (East Gate entrance is best), from the outside it gives no clue it's a restaurant, let alone a good one. But, like so many Beijing treasures, making the effort to pop inside rewards you with a cosy small restaurant, a warm welcome, and great value Italian food.

Now, LMPlus is not perfect, so let's deal with the obvious downsides - no toilet inside, so the communal Central Park ones just next door are the ticket (these are passable, but a wee drawback on the overall experience). The restaurant space is cosy, great for anyone suffering large Chinese restaurant overload, but if you don't like warm and cosy, then this might be worth considering.

But the food and personal service from the owner are both outstanding, the local staff are well trained and provide 5 star service, and the fun ambiance, enhances the hearty local Italian style dishes. There's also a private cellar room suitable for six to 10 guests, very nice feel to this, and suitable for a business lunch or private celebration with friends.

The antipasto platters are a must, and the whole experience won't leave your wallet too damaged. If you live in CBD area and have not been, then visit. Four outta five, only loses a star for the toilets...

I just dont share the sentiment. Space and style-wise, LMPlus is what I had always hoped for is a local eatery. It's cozy, comfortable, and clean, and literally almost just out my door, but I found the food a bit bland, and nothing so significantly special that I've been reading about, especially for the price. I think they really need to step up the game food-wise, and drop some of the attitude that the owner/manager seems to have. Ask for "JUST water", and he is VERY quick on the draw to pull the high-priced Italian sparkling water from the fridge, and twist that cap off the second it's in his hand! $$$
