In a city where service and quality are generally lacking when it comes to American food, Home Plate is a refreshing and much needed addition to Beijing's food community.
After hearing some good stuff about Home Plate from a friend, I decided to give them a call last January to try it out for myself. Upon calling, I was greeted in English by (I assume) the English speaking, American owner/manager. I speak Chinese and am quite comfortable ordering food in Chinese, but I thought it was great to finally be able to place a delivery order in my mother tongue to another native English speaker. In Beijing, it's the little things like that that can make a foreigner's day.
I ordered a double cheeseburger with no mayo, fries and a coke for myself, and my friend ordered the chicken quesadilla with a side of chili cheese fries. Living here for over two years, I expected the food to arrive in the usual 45 min to an hour. To my pleasant surprise, the food arrived in about 25 minutes, still hot from being just off the grill.
When we sat down to eat, we were each very impressed and satisfied with our choices. The double cheeseburger was big, juicy and delicious, and all of the toppings and bread tasted very fresh. True to my order, there was no mayo on it. The fries were also very good. My friend's quesadilla was also excellent, it tasted comparable to something I'd get in the States. Extra bonus points for providing several dipping sauces.
For all around quality like this, you'd probably expect to pay a high price. But, prices were extremely reasonable -- 38 rmb for my double cheeseburger combo meal and 43 rmb for the quesadilla (25) and chili fries (18).
Living in Shaoyaoju near UIBE, there aren't a lot of options for delivery, so I'm really happy about Home Plate. This place is legit. I give this place very high marks on all accounts, and I look forward to ordering from them again!
