Vegetarian-china.info says, "Although most 'western' food in China is of terrible quality with an inversely proportional price tag, there are some gems available."
I heartily agree!
Monster Pizza opened a few months ago, a project of Helen and Eugene, the two jovial owners who greeted my boyfriend and me with smiles and menus. It's tucked away, on the second floor of a small food mall in Wangjing. It doesn't seem like an inconspicuous location is impeding customers, though!
We've brought friends here, ordered two pizzas, and spent less than we usually do on strictly vegetarian food. That being said, their meaty delights are fantastic. There's the "Acropolis", a Greek wonder. There is this weird pizza that mentions Idaho spuds in its name and has all sorts of potato-BBQ-sauce melange-ing going on. Excellent. Their ingredients are fresh, their beer/drink selections good, and the crusts...crusty...
My only complaint? Sometimes the toppings are not as plentiful as I'd like.
The sides (macaroni salad, wings, fries) are delicious.
In high Italian-restaurant-style, Monster Pizza also offers coloring pages and pastels with which to entertain yourself as the pizza bakes. From the myriad pied papers lining the ceiling and walls, it seems as if quite a few happy customers (myself included) frequent Monster Pizza. Definitely a must if you live in Wangjing.
