Best Mexican food in Beijing!

I've lived near Yonghegong subway station for the last four months and I always stop by SPL at least once a week for my regular dose of Mexican food. The food there is easily the best and freshest Tex-Mex I've had in Beijing (apparently the owner goes to Mexico on "cooking expeditions"!)and in comparison with the western oriented joints along Wudaoying it is quite reasonably priced. The nachos make for great snack food and the burritos are nothing short of amazing. My personal favorite is the steak burrito; the veggies are fresh, salsa and sour cream are homemade, and the meat is cooked medium/medium-rare.

The staff are attentive, speak fluent English, and make sure to remember their regular customers. If the owner isn't in the kitchen working on new recipes, then he's on the floor chatting with guests. He says that he spends quite a bit of time hunting down fresh ingredients at the local markets and you can definitely tell from the quality of the food.

The first floor consists of a few tables along the kitchen/bar area and is home to the owner's friendly husky. The second floor is the main lounge/dining area with a central table surrounded by couches. The rooftop isn't open yet (wait until late spring/summer) but there's an cozy little outdoor patio up there. Great little restaurant tucked away at the western end of wudaoying, I seriously don't know why so many people would rather go pay inflated prices for generic western food at the Vineyard instead. In my opinion this is the best western restaurant in Beijing.
