Review of Guangfu Yuan
1

At first glance Guangfu Yuan pushed all the right buttons for a official provincial hotel restaurant. Kind of dingy dining room spruced up with some nice tablecloths? Check. Solid menu of provincial dishes? Check. Incredibly apathetic waitstaff directed by a most likely overpaid manager? Check.

Unfortunately the food was not up to snuff with the likes of the Chuan Ban (Sichuan), Yunnan, or Xinjiang provincial restaurants. While these menus are packed with amazing dishes at great prices Guangfu Yuan's food was largely uninspired and overpriced. Had a bowl of the Guilin Mifen which was a solid but nothing quality-wise exceeding other small Guilin Mifen restaurants around the city for a quarter of the price. The other dishes including the taro ribs, a lamb dish, and two dishes of vegetables from our visit were bland and comically overpriced for what you get. Maybe the chefs were bored that night but sadly this was a once and only visit. Long Yuan Tang over by Beixinqiao is a much better choice for good Guangxi food.
