Review of Home Plate BBQ
4

Visited Home Plate a couple of times after reading the reviews on here and don't get me wrong it's a smashing little place but I think what left me underwhelmed was the portion sizes.

Having experienced gut busting BBQ's in the US I was looking forward to leaving this place with at least a serious bout of the meat sweats if not a full on cow coma, and have to say I was left a little disappointed.

Unable to choose between the brisket and the pulled pork I went for the combo platter at around 90RMB expecting a feast of Flinstones proportions. What came seemed meager in comparison and I needed a couple of corn dogs to even feel like the sides were being touched.

On the plus side however the quality of the meat was fantastic, cooked to perfection, and as someone has mentioned the corn dogs are an absolute bargain. The beer is cheap and cold, and the service is in general above your usual BJ average. It's a great place to sit outside on a warm evening with a group of mates, street dining without the diesel fumes.

I have eaten once inside and yes it is 'rustic' without much character so will be interesting to see what the vibe is like when the cold weather forces everyone indoors.

I would love to give this place 5 stars but the value for money - 160 RMB for what I received seemed to take the gloss off a little. Maybe I missed a trick with my selections.
