walked by two weeks ago, met the new american owner, so i thought i give it a try.

hot dogs are ok, although a bit pricy according to me.

however, the guy changed the name of that place from holy fries into american holy fries (fries are a belgian dish anyways, so you could also name a burger place ethiopian holy burgers. where is the sense in that??) and said that the fries are sooo good and absolutely worth trying, so i ordered them.

they are disgusting. MAN, if you run a place called AMERICAN HOLY FRIES i freaking expect those fries to be good or at least better than what those places around you serve. the fries at la bamba are ten times better than what the serve at AHF, so don't get them.

you better rename that place into american holy can coke or something...

Just for the record, Belgian fries are called Pommes Frites and are completely different from American style French Fries.
Maybe the places fries were not to your taste. I've not eaten there so I really don't know the quality of the place, but trashing a place becuse of the name is uncalled for. did you give the owner direct feedback on your meal? Doing that does far more good by allowing them to improve thier food or service. Trust me Americans love thier fries at least as much as the French or Belgians do, maybe even more! do yourself a favor if you re going to post a review on a restaurant and you say something is not good, simply saying it was disgusting is not a good way to let readers know about the place. why not try to go into details about what you didn't like it would be more helpful and won't waste you or others time.

hahaha...regarding wasting the time of others: i never asked you to read any post. perhaps you want to copy paste your comment and put it below 80% of the food-reviews.
HOWEVER, you are right, i should have said what wasn't good. so, dear chefjeff, here we go:

the fries were cold, the pieces were way too big (had nothing to do with the pics we see online, they changed their fries apparently with the new owner) and the fries were, although fried, raw inside (i think because they were too big). i've heard good fries should be cooked before getting fried. they were not.

so, regarding the name: if a place is called holy fries, i expect fries that i wanna cherish. the fries at this place were bad. so bad, i call them disgusting. i didn't finish them and i didn't talk to them, my chinese isn't good enough yet, and i haven't seen the owner again. but if i do, i go to him and tell him that i thought of his fries and took even an online-discussion into account and want to recommend him changing the name of his restaurant. i certainly will.

perhaps we can go together. eating at la bamba and then walk over. later we can have water melon ice (the one they sell at 7eleven, delicious!). i appreciate your time, hope i didn't waste it.

Mahan,
sorry about the wasting others time comment that was also uncalled for. I apologize. I just got on a rant.
I have been in Beijing for a very long time and understand your complaints very well. I often feel the only way to affect change is to let the owner of the places that I'm not happy with know why, from there it is up to them to what effect it will have. I'll bet the owner of the place has no restaurant experience or maybe no experience training his staff properly. I'll just bet when the owner is cooking the fries are fabulous and when he is not....... well you get the picture. but hey, I do this for a living so I am both particular, but also forgiving, and willing to give places like these another shot BEFORE I review them. but hey thats just me.
regards
