After reading all the great reviews on here, I thought it must be worthy of dragging myself out on a cold Tuesday night to see for myself this little hidden gem that everyone has been raving about. The location is not actually that hard to find, especially if you follow Ni Hao Dinosaur's directions - they were spot on. Look out for the white sign and foreigners tapping away on Apple Mac's in the window - you could easily walk past it. The decor is modest and comfortable, and I like that the bar is away from the seating area. Also one of the few places to have made the most of the so-called smoking ban - big brownie points. Service was quick, friendly and efficient, and the owner was happy to come over, have a chat and make sure everything was ok for us.
So, the food - well, there's not much I can say that no-one else already has! I'm not American so I can't comment on its authenticity, but I was thoroughly pleased I'd made the effort to try this place. Pulled pork melted in the mouth, I could've eaten about 4 of those badboys. The ribs - we tried to order a full rack to share and the waitress stretched her hands to shoulder-width and advised we went for the half rack. Which we did. And still didn't finish it. The few that we did finish made it look like we'd just uncovered a dinosaur skeleton on the table. Great meat and lots of it, tender, smothered in a scrummy, sticky BBQ sauce. The side sauces were also lush - I guess a southern-type slighty spicy BBQ dipping sauce? Totally made it. Chips were homemade and brought to the table warm, and the homemade salsa had a lovely slighty-spicy kick to it. All washed down with a few COLD, reasonably priced American beers.
VFM? Yeah baby. Great dining experience. Will be back. With my friends. And an appetite.
