Despite reading the horror stories on here, I gave it a try anyway, and I was very impressed with the foreign medical area.

I was there at 8am when it first opened, took 20 minutes to get registered, find the department etc but when I got to the 'foreign area' I found it extremely clean, and only 3 other people were waiting in the same corridor.
After 5 minutes I was called in, the door was closed and NOBODY disturbed us the whole time and I was there for 10 minutes!

The doctor seemed very competent, had worked in the US for 2 years and spoke good English.

Guess some people don't want to pay 200 rmb, but after walking through the normal hospital, past literally hundreds of people (dont forget this is at 8am!!), past bags of used medical instruments / body parts etc I'd pay the extra 200 anyday.

You can easily do the whole thing without speaking much Chinese, which helps for finding out where to go and registering but not essential. However make sure you know which department you need before hand, or you can describe the problem to the receptionist so they can book you into the right place.

So to avoid the queues get there early and you should be fine.
