Terrible Thainese style food

The reason this place is always full is very well illustrated by the 3 reviews below mine. 2 foreigners say the food is crap and inauthentic, one Chinese person says it is “great!”

Golden Banana is geared towards locals with the tacky dinner performance, the extremely large, spread out, confusing but well illustrated menu, the high prices and the Chinese food. Quite easily the least authentic Thai food I have ever had, though the food itself is not bad at all, quite good even, if you order the right things.

The worst thing about this restaurant is the staff who are completely useless in any language. The simple request for some hot sauce/chili sauce/Thai-sweet-chili-from-a-bottle (Any kind of god-damn dipping sauce would have done!) came with a dozen confused faces, numerous attempts at making us point to something on the menu they could order for us and conversations with 3 levels of manager before finally, one quick-kitty rushed to the kitchen and came back with a tiny scraping of something which resembled Tom Yum soup paste from a jar.

We also ordered soup for one but were charged for the biggest soup for 4-6 people. This was resolved after they tried to negotiate us into paying ¾ the price of the big soup and again 3 people were needed before they finally agreed to charge us for the soup we ordered.

If you are in Solana and you are starving and the Chinese food court under the ice-skating rink has burned down… and the Subway restaurant is closed…. and the Starbucks has turned into an SPR coffee….. then… maybe… if you want to spend a lot of money and be disappointed.… then you can go to Golden Banana and get some food.

I think the point he is trying to make is that like Chinese food in the west, it is specifically made more the local audience rather than being the type of Thai food you would get in Thailand
