I stumbled upon Luga's my first week in Beijing. I was drawn in by the amazing sounds while exploring Sanlitun. They had a DJ playing some of the best breaks I've ever heard, anywhere in the world. Funky, old school breaks with the emphasis on funk; James Brown or Erik B and Rakim I Know You Got Soul/Paid in Full kind of stuff, with some new songs mixed in. As I said, I was amazed to find music this good anywhere, let alone Sanlitun, Beijing. It made me go back a few more times, first for drinks and then for food.
I stopped by last night and I guess they changed the DJ. It was some idiot who had the levels too high. When he ‘mixed’ there would be 'BLAAWK-BAAWWK' noises from feedback since everything was redlining and the system couldn’t handle it. He didn't notice or care. The selection was crap; top 40 shit and there was no mixing involved whatsoever other than him repeatedly stabbing the cue button to play the first bar of the next song, over and over....and not even in time with the music. It was seriously embarrassing. People say, ‘You know, well anyone can DJ.' Well, if they mean like the guy last night, then ya.
I got my food to go (the quesadillas were still delicious and a great late night snack) but didn't even bother to finish my beer because the music was that bad. Compared to what they had before, it's a real shame!
TL:DR - Get the food, but don't stay for the tunes (anymore).

Re: What the hell happened?
Indeed! I have stopped in occasionally but it seems to always be dead... Business gone, custom gone. Change needed!
