5 stars for consistency

With a constantly changing dining scene in Beijing, it is good there are places like Cafe de la Poste!

Living in Beijing for 5 years, sometimes you want to have a place that you know will be there, be consistent and unpretentious, and when I went to la Poste a few days ago I realized how underappreciated it is in that regard.

Prices might have been a bit steep in the past, but today getting a decent piece of meat for around 100Y is a bargain. Add to it the 10Y draft beer, 15Y for a coffe and 8Y for a big glass of Pastis, and I can't imagine anyone really complaining about the price. It is a great place for a dinner followed by a drink in the evening. The deserts are a bit small but really amazing!!

The staff is always a mix of locals and foreigners, and the place has a very strong local following so don't expect it to be very quiet or intimate.

If you are looking for French fine dining, you might find better (and stiffer) places in Beijing, but if you are want to have a great evening out in a place that feels truly European I'd strongly suggest
Cafe de la Poste!
