This is kind of a review/comparison of two places. We have lived in Beijing for two years. My spouse has travelled throughout China and Asia for 30 years. We have NEVER had bad food or drink at this place. I can't tell you how many times that we have been sick from food in Asia and Beijing. If you are tired of Chinese food and want to pretend that you are in the US then this is the place to go. First, they have the very best trained wait staff in the area. If you are in China you have to understand that wait staff does not give two shakes of a lamb’s tail about you. The staff here is pretty well trained. There is a Chinese manager that really does a great job with the staff. You will not get Michelin service in China unless you are paying upwards of $100 US per plate. We eat out two to three times a week at all types of places. I have been to the state of Texas numerous times as I have a child that lived there and have eaten at the best BBQ in that state as well as Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis, North Carolina. The flavor at Tim's is better than some in the US. Is it better than the Salt Lick in Austin? Hell no! but that is pretty much the brisket bar. You are not in the US, people. By the way, don't go to a TX BBQ and order fish and chips. Are you a moron? The fall seasonal menu of pumpkin soup is delicious and I have taken Chinese friends there that have loved it. Also, a note about Home Plate winning the best burger contest: I don’t get that at all. Home plate’s BBQ sauce is not authentic American sauce it has weird spices and would be laughed at in the US. Tim's burger which my spouse has ordered numerous times medium rare has never made him sick. I don’t know if I would order a medium rare at Home plate. Also, Home Plate is a complete drag to get to. Home Plate is not convenient to get to by foot and no one in the area has any idea how to get to it. Tim's is a short, direct walk north from Yang Anli station on the north east side across from the Silk Market. Cheers!
