Review of Q Mex Taqueria
2

This is a Mexican restaurant that serves their tacos with tabasco sauce.

If you don't see a problem with that, might I suggest also providng ketchup? But then again, I've seen reviews of Mexican food on this website praising "crunchy flatbread" so I shouldn't be surprised.

Provide salsa or give it up.

Dear Shabba,

My name is Marcus Medina and I’m the executive chef and co-owner of Q Mex. I’m reading your review and I’m a bit confused. There is no taco on our menu that is served with tabasco sauce! I don’t understand your statement as there is not even a single dish on the menu that includes tabasco.

Perhaps you are referring to our spice tray? If you feel disturbed by Tabasco in a spice tray than I also don’t understand it. It is a personal choice and many customers like it. Other than that, all our tacos are topped in a very Mexican way. If you order our DIY tacos you can even top your tacos with the salsas that you prefer on your meat.

So far, we received excellent feedback about our food (especially tacos) from not only Chinese and foreigners in general but especially from Mexicans. We were told that they are very happy to finally have authentic Mexican food available in Beijing.

I’m wondering if it was really the Q Mex Taqueria where you had this experience?

I went to check out the Burger which in all fairness, I hear is actually great. But on that day, they were sold out. So I had some tacos and a burrito. I kept my expectations very very low.

Not close to real mexican food. Not close to Tex-Mex mexican food. I don't care if the Chef is Mexican. That does not mean anything to me. I grew up in LA and ate all the mexican before it was cool to do the truck thing. on Soto street 20 years ago when it's just mexican and black kids and white folks were way too scared to come to downtown LA. I've eaten in Mexico by the sea. This place is not authentic. You know what is authentic? The truck behind Union Station after the fly away bus drops you off from the airport. First meal when I go home. Tacos. Every single tiem . Even that medicore taco truck has fresh made salsa verde or salsa roja, and limes for your delicious treats beacuse as you know, most people like some nice acids for the greesy meats and carbs? I think if you tried to offer only tabasco in LA as the only condimento, they would simply LOL you out of the state for being so ludicris.

But this is Beijing. How many of us living here actually have tasted a real taco? Not many and certainly not the majority of customers I saw at the restaurant. So this is the point: the menu/price/service standard and decor is mostly designed for LOCALS. It's like you in America thinking Panda Express is great Chinese. They dont' know anything about mexican and are willing to pay $10 for 3 really bad hardshells. Don't they know how much better they can do with 10$ at Taco Bell? No they don't.

I personally have nothing against this place. The above is my honest opinion. I went to try the burger. But I will never come back. Because the service is so awful, it's so noisey and crowded and people bumping into you, the price is way too high for the quality you get, and the cherry on top of the cake? Grandma takes the 2 year old walking nightmare around the restaurant, stops in front of the drum set, and bangs away for 30 minutes. No one gives a shit. Except maybe the Australian accented Manager who is actually quite nice and tries so hard. I can tell. But no single person can make this place awesome. Time to Call kitchen nightmares.

My advice is to learn how to pick up some hard shells from Jenny Lous, gets some ground beef, cheese, avocado, sour cream cheese, tomatoes and lettuce, hot sauce from the bottle, and go nuts at home!
