To support German companies in their talent search, the German Industry & Commerce Greater China - Beijing, will organize the 16th Sino-German Job Fair on March 31st, 2018. Our aim is to offer a platform for young talents and top German companies to communicate in person and explore potential synergies online and offline.

Community Passover Seder Saturday, March 31st

The Passover Seder is a communal meal where we recount the Exodus story and explore historic and modern realities of slavery and freedom. Passover is also a time of remembrance because “we too were once strangers”. (Exodus, 22:20)

Since social isolation is a key factor in the mental health of the homeless, the Passover Seder creates an opportunity for these individuals to connect and be part of a community.

This year we'll be hosting our Community Seder on the second night of Passover at the Capital Club (Kehillat Beijing Address)

Kehillat Beijing - Beijing's Local Jewish Community

Founded in 1979, the Kehillat Beijing Foundation supports Jewish life in Beijing, around China, and across the world. We host Shabbat services and dinner each and every Friday night beginning at 7:00 pm, in addition to a range of holiday celebrations, educational opportunities, and community retreats and excursions into one of the world's greatest cities.

Our History

While the first members of Beijing’s Jewish community arrived here as early as the 1930s and 1940s, the history of Kehillat Beijing dates back to 1979, the year Deng Xiaoping’s “Open Door” policy went into effect. In those early days, the members of the community were primarily North American business people, journalists, diplomats, and students, and efforts focused on getting together for Passover and the High Holy Days, which were usually celebrated at the homes of members. The community’s first seder took place in 1980.

By the early 1990s, in addition to people from the U.S.A. and Canada, Beijing’s Jewish community had grown to embrace Jews from Australia, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Luxembourg, Poland, and Russia. We coalesced as a community in 1995 and began regular Friday night services in that year, courtesy of the Capital Club of Beijing, which continues to provide the venue today.

Dr. and Mrs. Jordan Phillips of the U.S.A donated a Sefer Torah, we began to celebrate all major holidays, and we put together a class for younger children and a discussion group for adults. In 1996 we celebrated our first bar mitzvah and in 1997 our first B'rit Milah –no mean feats in a city with neither a rabbi nor a mohel.

The snow leopard is a majestic animal spread throughout the high altitude mountains and plateaus of Central and Western Asia. The mountain landscapes that are home to the snow leopards and their prey are increasingly subject to human pressures. Humans are at the centre of major threats to the species, including retaliatory killings, livestock rearing, contribution to loss of prey, and the increasing penetration of development projects into snow leopard areas.

This talk will discuss what we know about the big cat and how we can protect them from extinction. Initiated in 2008, the Snow Leopard Trust’s long-term comprehensive ecological study of snow leopards addresses critical gaps in knowledge ranging from home range assessments to basic population parameters such as predation patterns and juvenile dispersal. On the basis of these findings, we consider protective measures at the local scale that would benefit snow leopards.
